Owner description: Born of a fairy tale by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, the statue incarnation of the Little Mermaid has watched over Copenhagen's harbor since 1913. In 2010, Den Lille Havfrue, as she is known in Danish, left her post to represent Denmark at the World's Fair in Shanghai.

not really much to say about this attraction. a small statue in the sea!
i did think there would be more shops etc around the area but there was just one small kiosk with over inflated prices, even more expensive than the central prices!
was worth visiting though, if only to say i have done it!

I didn't understand what all the hype was about! Its a monument by the water with not much else around.

The Little Mermaid is something that you probably must see at least once. Given, it has tremendous tourist value, and who does not know the story of the little mermaid by Hans Christian Anders (NOT the Disney version!)? The rather small statue itself, tells an interesting story, having lost its head quote a few times, been painted and dressed up.
When visiting The Little Mermaid, also remember to go see the amazing Gefion Spring.

Some might arrive and think, "Why did I trek all this way just to stand around this little statue with a bunch of other tourists?" but the walk there offers a good view of the city, the surrounding park/fort is pretty, and it's one of the Must See attractions in Copenhagen so you won't have to answer "no" when fellow travelers asked if you saw it.

I have never understood, why busloads of tourists keep going to see this small monument. With all the changes, that has happened in the Copenhagen Port the last few years, I would definitely seek out more interesting places. But the area around the Little Mermaid is nice with many green areas and a view of the sea. And it is also nice to stroll along the port all the way down to Nyhavn, and don't forget to visit the other side of the port, where a lot of development is taking place. And where the new Opera House is.
