Owner description: Born of a fairy tale by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, the statue incarnation of the Little Mermaid has watched over Copenhagen's harbor since 1913. In 2010, Den Lille Havfrue, as she is known in Danish, left her post to represent Denmark at the World's Fair in Shanghai.

How can you go to Copenhagen and not see the Little Mermaid? Even though it's swarmed with tourists, you can still enjoy the beautiful statue in relative peace. Be patient - wait for the tourists in tour buses to leave, quickly take a few pictures (if you want to) before the next bus load of tourists come.

The harbour itself is very nice, I walked the entire way to the Little Mermaid from the New Harbour area. It's a very pleasant walk... and you get to see the opera house, the marble church and the royal residence on the way.

“Not sure what the fuss is about”
Reviewed October 10, 2012

It's a small statue. If you go on a Canal Tour (which I recommend) you can see it from there, otherwise don't waste the time to walk to it.

“must-see”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

It's really a must-see during a trip in Copenhagen but don't expect too much. It's quite a long walk to get to the mermaid but it's a nice area to walk. I went by tourboat to the mermaid and it was fun.

“Langelinje not the mermaid”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

Let it be said: the little mermaid is about the size of a girl and located quite close to the coast. Just look for all the tourists and you will find her.

But focusing more on the langelinje:
The harbour it self is not that interesting unless there is a nice big cruiser or a hangar ship at anchor.
But take a walk all the way down by the citadel enjoy the cherry trees, the sound of the waves and end up by the Gefion fountain and you will notice another why to why copenhagen is so popular.
