“Best museum in Copenhagen”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2014

This place is mind-blowing and I don't use the word lightly. Sir David left a treasure trove of Islamic art from India to Spain including Afghanistan, Spain, Egypt dating back centuries in his collection, housed inside his stunning 4 storied home. If you are interested (and you will eventually BE, even if you are initially not) this could take hours. Spare a day for The David Collection.

“Beautiful Collection, Magnificently Presented”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2014

We've been to many museums over the years, but the manner of presentation in this one, particularly of the Islamic collection, has to rank amongst the very best we've ever seen. Keep your eyes open for the place, because it's so underplayed from the street that it's easy to miss.

“Interesting exhibition on islamic art, but the one on Indian blockprinting: quite orientalist”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 18, 2014

I really liked the exhibition on Islamic art, if you are not already an expert and there is a rainy day, there is so much to see and read on religion, history and art. It was very interesting.

However, the exhibition on indian block printing was quite orientalist. The items collected by a white danish artists in the 80s were very interesting, but the "she stayed in primitive conditions" on the main exhibition poster and the line on how people beliefs and traditions in the area are "superstition" was really too much in the direction of post-colonialist European supremacy for me to handle, so I left. (Side note: Have you been to a Scandinavian cottage/hut in the 80s? So primitive! But somehow thats ok.)

The exhibition on the belongings of several rich bourgois Danes in Copenhagen was interesting, too. If one is into rich people, I guess. Or you are in Copenhagen on a rainy sunday. Check out the enormous vanity/toiletry tables. Rich dudes even had such furniture for traveling. I kid you not.
