“Cemetary and a park!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 1, 2013

This is where you will find the graves of many famous danes, among them H.C. Andersen.
But also people sunbathing.
A peaceful place to walk around.

“Cemetary used as quiet park”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 19, 2013

An old Copenhagen cemetary (few new graves though) at Nørrebro (ethnic part of Copenhagen). Young people use the cemetery as a park, either for walking, enjoying the sun or shadow. Danish celebs are buried here.

“Lovely place for a walk”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2012

The Assistens Cemetary is a lovely place to go for a walk and mingle with local people. You can see a lot of people running, playing with the kids or just strolling along. The cemetary has a park-like feel and has all kinds of lovely nooks. In the autumn, the trees turn all kinds of colours. I thouroughly enjoyed having a walk here and reading the old and new grave stones, imagining life as a writer in the 18-somethings and such. The graves are mostly well tended with modest stones and little gardens around them.

“Guided tours”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2012

Bring a Danish friend for translatting, the guided tours at assistens kirkegård are so informative about the history of Copenhagen as well as the tombs and the etics about making a subway on a cementery.

“Unexpectedly beautiful”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2012

I am not a big fan of visiting cemeteries as they tend to give me the creeps. However, when I found out that H.C.Andersen and Niels Bohr were buried here, I decided to make a quick visit to visit these two graves. However, I was pleasantly surprised and ended up spending quite a lot of time here. The whole atmosphere is less of a cemetery and more of a park where I saw people jogging, reading and walking their dogs. There are a lot of interesting looking grave stones around and the multitude of trees and shrubs lend the place an ethereal atmosphere. The cemetery still appears to be in use as I saw a grave marked as recent as Jan 2011. Highly recommended for an unusual yet satisfying experience.
