To save you wandering around and waiting for the nearby tourist office to open late to pick up some maps, this is at the south-west side of the Tivoli Gardens, opposite the Central Station. The Danish pastries are excellent. The tart we had was ok. We've had better croissants in Tiong Bahru. The 30+kr coffees were decent. The menu board is only in English.
We were too early for the famous hot dogs to be served, so we came back the next day as we had left our bags at the station. There are better hot dogs everywhere in Iceland. What this one lacked in hot-dogness, it made up for in size. You have to cut it into pieces if you are not to choke. Which kind of misses the point of a hot dog, which to my mind is meant to be eaten standing up, if not walking. Too be fair, it is a Gourmet Hotdog costing 50kr, so it has to be big. I would save the calories for Smørrebrød.
BTW, save yourself 5kr and use the facilities there instead of at the station.
