“Nice hotel, great service, sloppy neighborhood”
Reviewed January 27, 2013

We stayed here for one night on a business trip. We were allowed to work in the restaurant despite that it already closed. They even provided us with some nice coffee. Great service!

The rooms are comfy and clean. Most stuff in the hotel is organic. Personally I don't care about whether my shampoo is organic or not, but I can imagine it might give the establishment a little extra to people who do care about such things.

When walking down the street you will probably bump into the occasional addict and/or hooker. It didn't bother me but the easily offended might not like it. The city centre is about 10 minutes walking distance away, which is perfect.

All things considered, I would definitely recommend this hotel. Certainly for business trips, but I I would have enjoyed the stay with my girl as well.

We stayed here for 4 nights in early Jan 2013 and the hotel was very nice and in a good location. Its really close to the train station, tivoli, and only 10 minute walk from the main shopping strip. It's also in the middle of the red light district which was good fun for me and my partner but maybe not the best for famalies with kids? We also hired bikes from the hotel for a pretty good price and rode to the zoo which was excellent, and only 5-10 minutes ride away. Our room was very nice but it was quite loud having a street view room. The organic breakfast worried me a bit but turned out to be excellent and well worth including in your stay. Overall, it was a nice place to stay and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Spent a few days with our family in December 2012. Close to Tivoli was great as we were there for the Christmas Market. Also lots of good restaurants nearby. Having spent a lot of time in Bali I'm not sure if I totally buy into the Bali style, it is however a very nicely designed and cosy hotel. Stayed at a Family Suite was great for our use. And breakfast was really good. So why not top rating? The hotel seemed a bit worn down, and there was extreme noise from people walking in the hallway next to our room. So better isolation and some paint would help. But will go back.

Room Tip: Make sure you do not get a room where the headrest of your bed is facing a wall thats facing the cor...

We spent 4 days in December and the overall experience was good.

Location is great, very close to the central train station, tivoli garden, versterbro neighborhood, ...

Room was so-so, good size for that price range, but the beds were average, and the room really, really needs to be refreshed. It's clean, but the furnitures, the bathroom, ... everything is a little worn out.

You can't hear any noise from the street, but you can hear people walking in the corridor.

The lobby and breakfast area are fvery friendly, and the staff is helpfull.

The breakfast could have been one of the best hotel breakfast I've ever had, too the eggs, bacon, sausages, .... were cold.

Room Tip: Prefer the rooms in the upper levels.

My wife and I stayed at the Axel in November 2012 and we had a lovely stay! We stayed here for four nights. The hotel is very near the railway station approx a 5min walk! The staff were very friendly and welcoming and spoke excellent English. They gave us some brilliant recommendations for dinner on arrival (Nam Nam & LêLê) and we visited both during our stay which were a short walk away from the hotel! Both were fantastic!! Also very close to the hotel is Andersen Bakery, beside Nimb Hotel – try their delicious hot dogs!

We had a superior room in the 3rd floor – lovely comfy four post bed. The bathroom was a little small but the organic shampoos & lotions provided by the hotel were v nice. The towels were a little small and felt like tea towel material. We had no problems with noise from the street during our visit. Rooms were cleaned daily.

We had breakfast on one morning was amazing - highly recommended! All organic including muesli, yoghurts, fruit, bacon, eggs, bread, salads, coffee / tea! Wish we had of tried it sooner as we would have had breakfast everyday! We also had a drink on one evening in the hotel lobby – we tried the locally brewed beer which was very nice.

Tivoil Gardens is only a short distance from the hotel, as are most site seeing locations. We walked everywhere. The Axel provide bikes but it was too cold to avail of these.

Overall the Axel was an excellent hotel in terms of location, quality and comfort. We will stay here next time we visit Copenhagen!!

Room Tip: Try the breakfast! Its a must!!

We had a lovely stay at Axel! The hotel is located near the railway station, but it didn't bother at all (no noice from the street even though we had read somewhere that there might be some...). The staff was very friendly and welcoming. We had a superior room in the 4th floor, nicely furnished, 2 televisions, balcony and a bath. A nice surprise in the room was that you could use their own organic shampoos and lotions while staying there, and then buy some home if you liked them. The only minus was the bathroom; it took a long time to get normal temperature water, it was either too hot or too cold. Also the heating was a bit too hot in the bathroom, we couldn't turn it colder. But these were minor things.
Also the breakfast was amazing, highly recommended! All organic, muesli, joghurts, bread, salads, tasty coffee...:)

Room Tip: Rooms facing the courtyard were quiet.

You are met by the spacious and beautiful lobby. Very inviting, and so are the people at the front desk.

The small doubleroom is... small, the bed 120cm, which was ok for us, but can you actually call it a double bed? But the room and bathroom is very nicely furnished and fresh.

Fantastic breakfast! We will definitely return

Only one question; If you want to be a organic, sustainable hotel; why do you keep an enormous root from a rainforest tree as a decoration in the spa?

Dear Ms Annsarner,

thank you for your kind words, we are very happy that you enjoyed your stay with us here at the Axel during the busy Christmas month.
In regards to your question concerning the tree root, we can tell you that this root has a special story: in Bali, they plant these huge trees in their cemeteries to protect the dead. When the tree after many decades becomes too large, and is in danger of falling over and damaging the graves and their decorations, they are uprooted and a new tree planted in their place. The uprooted tree is then used for manufacturing chopsticks, furniture and many other things. This particular tree-root comes from the local cemetery near the Guldsmeden resort in Bali, Chapung Sebali. We hope this answers your question :-). Best from all of us at Axel.
