“Gracious welcome, fine dining in beautiful settings”

Went for lunch with a friend, at d'Angleterre's restaurant Marchal the same week as they opened. We were met by very nice and polite staff unlike the other reviews. It was very gracious and we felt very welcome. We had made reservations in the restaurant for lunch. It was a bit warm that day and they could have turned up the air-con and the waiter could see that and offered a nice cool glas of Pol Roger. Ordering our dishes went smoothly and the dishes came with perfect timing. BUT my friend ordered fish and the waiter gave her the tartar of veal and we both had chocolate dessert but the dessert was made more out of black currant cream than chocolate which was quite a disapointment.

The White Lady on Kongens Nytorv has come out after a long renovation job. Unfortunately, she’s come out made up in drag: there’s too much purple velvet, too many too shiny lamps with velvet shades standing on black laquered tables. In a word, it’s bling, a style that’s dated already leaving one wondering how soon the owners are going to have to reupholster furniture and change carpets to go on attracting the upmarket crowd they are after. I couldn’t see old money or business money coming here, only fast and new flashers with little class.

You still expect staff to be confident and generous, not hiding their insecurity behind a turned-up nose attitude. The head of the bar twitched when I asked if we could take our drinks to the vestibule rather than stay in the crowded bar area. The vestibule was quiet, private and empty so why not? He told us no, but when I said another staff member had just said it was OK he was forced to accepted our request - but stormed off in a huff. Waiting a long time for our drinks to arrive, we speculated he might be punishing us.

By the glass, the drinks card had a choice of only five white and five red producers. The draft beer selection was Carlsberg.

As a current 5 star resort VIP Services employee, when one walks onto another 5 star property there is a certain expectation. That expectation is not only a top notch facility, but impeccably gracious reception that welcomes the guest. The former expectation was certainly met--beautiful property. The latter was not--horrible reception. A friend and I visiting Copenhagen decided to stop in at d'Angleterre for a drink. The doormen greeted us in such an unwelcoming way that we had a quick look at the lobby and left. We agree so very much with the previous post--one of the coldest, most despondent receptions ever. Will I be back? Doubtful. We found everyone else in Copenhagen to be friendly, welcoming people. This experience was off-putting to say the least.

We had our wedding dinner in the restaurant of the hotel 32 years ago on May 2nd, and went back for lunch. Luckily they reopened after major refurbishment on our anniversary. We enjoyed a very good lunch with champagne, caviar tasting and sweetbread. Very stylish and good service.

My girlfriend went there this week with a friend to view the hotel , the reception she received was poor to say the least...she is an interior designer and wanted to have a drink and some lunch and to look round! She was told she couldn't by a young member of the management team and that they were full....obviously they need to be educated !!!
