Copenhagen Plaza Hotel

This hotel is about 15 years past a good makeover. The rooms have very old furniture, the paint in the hotel has a considerable number of chips and scrapes and for the price the value is simply not there. The rooms are very dimly lit and the bath and show facilities do not work very well. If the price was lower I wouldn't have been so irritated with the quality but I paid top DKK for this and it is not worth it. It does have a good location and internet.

I've stayed at the Plaza Hotel a number of times.
The hotel has old world character and is very centrally located next to the Central Station.
Rooms would benefit from some TLC and are a bit outdated.
Service has always been helpful and friendly. Breakfast selection is good.
The Library bar has a great atmosphere, just take note that it closes at 22:00.

My title says it all. This was an unexpected and nasty stay. Bathroom was leaking water all over the floor. Expensive breakfast all in all this should Close. On the brightside the library bar was good but no ventilation and high temps inside.

Aging and somewhat dated property opposite the Tivoli Gardens and next door to the Copenhagen Central Station. The property is reasonably well kept but it is all rather quirky and old school style. My room at the top of the hotel had some slopped ceilings. Its great advantage is clearly the location - my room literally overlooked the famous Tivoli Gardens. However with the windows open you do experience a lot of road noise.

Breakfast and service was reasonable

However I would not want to stay too long in this hotel as it felt rather tired and staid.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room

This is an old hotel right by the Central Station so if you are on that side you will have some train noise unless you close your windows. We found it an interesting old hotel; it's not glamorous but has plenty of character and we liked the traditional Danish furnishings in the bedrooms. Wi fi is rather iffy but if you are on holidays it doesn't matter. The breakfast was wonderful and the staff in every respect were friendly, courteous and helpful in every way. Also three cheers- after 4 weeks of hotels with showers that let the water run all over the bathroom floors, the Copenhagen Plaza has proper shower cubicles with doors that shut.

Room Tip: A room away from the station side of the corner unless you are happy to keep the window closed.

Consider taking out a second mortgage if you are planning more than a couple of nights but that's Copenhagen. It was an old hotel but appeared to be well cared for, at least what I saw of it. It is a great location, one block from the central train station and across the street from Tivoli Garden, the number one tourist attraction in town. There is a fairly high end restaurant in the hotel. Avoid the Room with Tivoli view unless you get an upper floor. We were on the 2nd floor(we Americans would call it third floor) and the immediate view was the line of store fronts across the street with the tops of trees behind them. Maybe the higher floors have a better view. The staff was attentive but I had to double check some of the concierge's info. One advantage of the nearby station is a very frequent train to the airport that takes a little over 10 minutes which is included in the travel card for public transportation and the Copenhagen card which includes as well most museums and Tivoli. I would recommend it but would make sure that I was getting the true price including tax from the hotel purveyors.

Room Tip: Higher floor

I am well aware that the average cost of living in Denmark and, in particular, in Copenhagen, is quite high. But, in this case, prices are literally out of proportion with respect to the overall quality of the hotel. 170 euros per night for sleeping in a tiny (little bright) room, with trains coming and going out of the window, ALL NIGHT LONG, can be considered a robbery.

Even if the hotel is "famous" and the quality of some other services is quite good (breakfast ok, very nice library bar).
Other minor flaws: congested wireless connection, poorly equipped gym, poorly furnished bathroom (for example, could someone please tell the managers that shower stalls need a shelf for soaps?).

In addition, Copenhagen is not the wonderful city Danish people keeps bragging about).

Room Tip: avoid rooms that face the railway station, super noisy at night
