“great location and atmosphere”
Reviewed December 17, 2013

this hotel is on the waterfront very close to downtown Copenhagen. it is not a 5-star hotel with room service and spa etc, however, it is a top quality in terms of atmosphere and location. it is build in an old warehouse with thick walls and massive wooden beams. the rooms are a good size but not massive, however, they are clean and the bed is nice and comfortable - there is also a decent but small bathroom. I had breakfast but no dinner at the hotel, the breakfast buffet was very good with plenty of variety.

Great location and interesting hotel. The rooms are quite small, although nicely decorated and finished to a good standard. The structural wooden beams are present throughout the hotel. The breakfast offered a great selection. I would stay there again.

I had a very nice stay at the Admiral Hotel in Copenhagen. I have been there several times. I like the location. The standard rooms are small. The hotel restaurant is good, but there are many
good restaurants just " round the corner"

Room Tip: I like the rooms with the canal and opera view

This hotel was pretty expensive for wbat you get. But a decent hotel in a very old building and in a nice location. The staff is a little too nice though. I fell asleep during the night with my MacBook Pro playing YouTube songs as loud as a MacBook Pro can play music. I woke up with an employee or manager called Rassmus standing over me in my room waking me up. His explanation was that he had entered my room because there had been complaints about noise and I had not answered knocks on my door. I asked him if he had any authority to enter my room, and he replied that he had that authority if there was a complaint about noise. Yes that MacBook can be noisy. I sort of did not care about this fellow being there but still found it a bit weird. I could not help wondering that if I had been a woman, I would not have been too happy waking up with a man in my room because I fell asleep with YouTube songs playing on a laptop computer. Lesson: Double lock your doors in this hotel if you want to wake up alone.

The venue is spectacular. A two century old grain storage facility converted to a modern hotel. The rooms were interesting and comfortable -- weird shapes with giant wood beams. The location works. There are good restaurants near by and it is a fine center for walking around many of the sites you would want to see in Copenhagen.
But there are issues. First the building has no air conditioning thus at night to modulate the temperature in order to sleep one has to open the windows, and if you are on the street side on a low floor at least (as we were) noised creep in to disturb your sleep. The walls are also not adequate for masking the noise in the room next door. The breakfast options whil reasonably wide are less than one would expect for such a grand hotel.
We went to dinner one evening in the Salt restaurant and the service was poor . For the first time in decades we left no tip.
Finally there is the room cleaning service. It is fine when they come, But if you are in the room and ask for them to come back later, forget about it. Even when they promise they do not come.

Room Tip: Stay away from the street side of the building.

If you are the kind of person that like to be seen in trendy places , then , the Admiral is for you
I found my bedroom , small , with nothing spécial except a high price !
Breakfast was not better than any hotel of that type , it is certainly well situated , again if you like touristic places .
I much prefer smaller hôtels , much warmer , with a better feeling of what Denmark can bring to you . Breakfast is also more traditional

My husband and I came for my birthday treat and delighted with the admiral. We'll located and nice to return to at the end of the day. Ate at Salt restaurant which was very high standard but enjoyed ambience of the bar more. Good cocktails and friendly service. Great view if opera house and harbour from harbour side rooms.

Room Tip: Harbour side is a must

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Next door to royal residence Amalienborg Palace and just a short walk from Nyhavn, this imposing 200-year-old former granary warehouse is one of the largest hotels in the city, with 366 rooms - but don't let that put you off. It may not be boutique but big can definitely be beautiful. Beyond the two cast iron canons at the entrance is a neon-pink bar (great for a pre-dinner tipple), while guests retire to rooms showing off classic Danish touches such as teak furniture, low ceilings and original wooden beams. Best of all are the panoramas across the water towards the city's shiny Opera House and Christiania: a view fit for royalty. ... more   less
