Disregard the canon guns pointing at you from the entrance, they're there to remind you of the turbulent past of this beautiful old building on the Copenhagen waterfront. A magnificent old granary with fantastic beams, beautiful model ships in the public areas and modern, comfortable bedrooms. Unfortunately we only spent one night but would love to return. The front office staff were very helpful, be it for check-in, tourist information or baggage storage for a few hours. Our room, on the sixth floor, was large, furnished in modern scandinavian style and decorated with interesting pictures. The bed was extremely comfortable and after a long day travelling we enjoyed an excellent sleep. The bathroom was of a good size and well equipped ; a very slight comment is that the ecological flush of the wc sometimes needed more than one action negating its water saving credentials (?) In the evening we had a light supper on the terrace where Madame was supplied with a wrap around blanket and we sat beneath parasols with built in heating. Excellent service, good selection of light dishes and reasonable prices. The huge buffet breakfast was first class - eat like a true Viking, herring fillets and onion slices with your coffee ! Delicious !

Room Tip: Rooms facing the port have the best view, but this includes the construction work on an exhibition c...

This hotel is in an ideal location for tourists. Easy walking to canal/river boat cruises on Nyhavn street, the main civilian walk/shopping street, the little mermaid, and the royal castle. It also has super restaurants all around it, particularly in Nyhavn street. In addition it was very historic. it is made from an old granery warehouse and still has interesting brick arches and large pillars in corridors and even large pillars in the rooms. This was fun. The staff was really super and very helpful and friendly. The rooms are furnished in early Holiday Inn -- i.e. very plain and utilitarian furniture, however our beds were comfortable. We came during the late spring so the lack of air conditioning was not an issue for us, but guests should be aware of this when planning. Our biggest problem was the thickness of the walls between rooms. we could hear absolutely everything said and done in the room next door to us. Also, there is currently some construction on the river side side of the hotel, so there are obstructed views in that direction and construction can be a bit noisy and start a bit early. The location however, was worth any inconvenience and the price was great. This was still a great deal for the location.

got there to find there are building works directly behind the hotel, so the "beautiful view " is actually a load of cranes. And they start work at 5.30 am !!! There is no air con so it is really hot everywhere and we were on the first floor where the attractive brick arches along the corridor were being used to store linen and other cleaning equipment.. very decorative. Staff were generally v good but we had to ask 3 times for them to make our bed into a double, and even then they tried to give my husband instructions on how to go about it. He refused, naturally as we'd booked a double and don't expect to move our own furniture !

Room Tip: Go for a room on the street side. Building going on for 2 years !

Wonderful hotel within walking distance of everything, including the Little Mermaid, Royal palace, Nyhaven canal. Very comfy beds and towels- hard to cool the room as there is no x-ventilation, but also don't want air con. Buffet breakfast plentiful and varied.

From check-in to departure this had the feel of a well run hotel. Our room overlooked the harbour - it was well designed and clean. Although breakfast could be a little frenetic the overall experience was very good. Staff were friendly, even when things got a little busy at reception or in the hotel restaurant.

It is easy to get to the hotel from the airport by public transport- takes a little over 30 mins. Hotel is well placed for all the important places of interest i.e. everything is within walking distance. Lots of good restaurants are close by and although this visit was in late January, most places were open.

We were very disappointed with this hotel. We booked a deluxe double room overlooking the water, but the room was very small and basic (and not particularly clean). Outside the entire length of the hotel on the water side is a construction site where the men start work promptly at 7am, so the room was very noisy. This is obviously not the hotel’s fault, but if the room had been air conditioned we would not have needed to have the window open. I requested a needle and thread from the receptionist, and she directed me to a vending machine (where I still could not find one); not the reaction I expected from a four-star hotel. Yes, the breakfast was very good, and although the reception staff’s attitude was poor, the bar staff and waiters were excellent, but overall I would not recommend this hotel. It is definitely not to the standard of a normal four-staff hotel.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Next door to royal residence Amalienborg Palace and just a short walk from Nyhavn, this imposing 200-year-old former granary warehouse is one of the largest hotels in the city, with 366 rooms - but don't let that put you off. It may not be boutique but big can definitely be beautiful. Beyond the two cast iron canons at the entrance is a neon-pink bar (great for a pre-dinner tipple), while guests retire to rooms showing off classic Danish touches such as teak furniture, low ceilings and original wooden beams. Best of all are the panoramas across the water towards the city's shiny Opera House and Christiania: a view fit for royalty. ... more   less
