“Wonderful hotel with old world charm”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 17, 2012

We stayed in the Admiral Hotel for 3 nights. The rooms are charming but admittedly do have beams from the old warehouse structure in the middle of the room. The rooms are good sized, beds comfortable, and elevators quick to respond. The included buffet breakfast was WONDERFUL with everything the American could wish for along with many things I hadn't expected like pate. The lobby is very, very large and comforable. The hotel is walking distance to shops, restaurants, and museums. I especially like the canal boat tour of the city which is about 4 or 5 blocks away. It even took us past the ocean side of the Little Mermaid. I would definitely stay at the Admiral Hotel again,

I would thoroughly recommend this hotel. It is in a perfect location. On the waterfront very close to Nyhaven but not noisy. Walking distance to train station and all tourist attractions. We booked double room for 2 adults and 1 child and the rate was excellent (for Denmark!!). On arrival at airport I called hotel and lovely receptionist gave me easy indications to get there. I then rang again (got in a muddle) and again the staff were lovely. When we got to the hotel we discovered that we had a wonderful duplex room. One double bed upstairs and one double sofa bed downstairs. The building has been renovated beautifully. Windows give onto water with amazing old sailing boat moored on quay. Breakfast rooms have indoor and outdoor terraces. Great breakfast - in fact couldn't be better. Mouthwatering selection. Excellent service. All staff very pleasant. Don't hesitate to book. Whilst in Copenhagen (with children) would definitely go to Tivoli Gardens, Lego shop, Changing of Guards at Palace, and dont' miss Carlsberg brewery.

The Admiral hotel has, without doubt, a lot of appeal: it is a converted warehouse, it's very well located, at walking distance from anything you would want to do or visit. The fashion side though can have some negative aspects: it can be crowded, with long queues at the reception, or with some parties going until late. And also the breakfast room can be quite crowded. But this does not detract from its beauty. The rooms are not big and have very good looking wooden beams, vertical and horizontal, which add to the beauty which may be painful for tall people if they get up in the middle of the night and try to reach the bathroom .... Privacy can be somewhat limited when people walk in the corridors and talk in a loud voice, doors are not really sound proof.
The bar is small but well served.
One warning: the parking in front of the Hotel is to be paid for, and quickly. I was fined within 15 minutes from parking (590 Krona, almost 100$, amazing), and I had not understood that the parking, while within the hotel premises, is managed privately. The hotel should do a better job in warning the guests. Parking for 24 hours costs around 25$
In summary, it is a nice hotel where its defects are counterbalanced by its location and its fashionable appearance.

Room Tip: I was given room 101 which was quite nice but overlooking the street (no noises from it). If you can...

Spent 3 nights here, and appreciated how close it is to everything you want to see in Copenhagen. The Little Mermaid, Amalienborg and Nyhavn is basically around the corner, and Strøget ain't far either. Our room was on the 4th floor against the street (we were told the sea view would cost an extra 200DKK a night), but we weren't bothered by any noice. The room was spacious and the beds were comfortable. Enjoyed the breakfast, nice and varied with fresh fruit and pastry. Couldn't locate any air condition, but for us that wasn't a problem, since we could just open the door to the balcony slightly. Might be a problem in summer though.

The gimmick of beams in your room is a real OH&S problem and together with poor lighting, paper thin walls, and a hotel sanctioned noisy party that went on until 1am made our stay very disappointing.

My wife and I stayed at the hotel on Sep 03, 2011 to Sep 05, 2011. The hotel room (booked Standard Double from hotels.com) was unique using the wood from the ship, comfortable size, and clean. We mainly used the hotel room to sleep/shower/refresh from exploring Copenhagen and it was great for our use.

The hotel was easy to find.10-15min walking distance from Kongens Nytorv Metro station, that connects directly from the Kastrup Airport.
It was very close to Nyhavn area with plenty of places to eat. We had nice walk by the water to the little mermaid statue.

Overall the location was great and room was clean. I recommend this hotel to anyone who is spending couple days exploring Copenhagen.

Scandinavian hotels are generally more expensive than southern Europe. This hotel is pretty good value for money. The rooms are very nice with a good feeling of the history of the place as and old harbour warehouse. The original huge wooden beams holding together the hotel are all still in place. The rooms are good and the beads great. We had a very early check-out so I did'nt try the breakfast. Service is friendly and good. The hotel is place within short walking distance from Nyhavn (the old harbour of Copenhagen with bars/restaurants) and also within walking distance of the royal residence and other attractions.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Next door to royal residence Amalienborg Palace and just a short walk from Nyhavn, this imposing 200-year-old former granary warehouse is one of the largest hotels in the city, with 366 rooms - but don't let that put you off. It may not be boutique but big can definitely be beautiful. Beyond the two cast iron canons at the entrance is a neon-pink bar (great for a pre-dinner tipple), while guests retire to rooms showing off classic Danish touches such as teak furniture, low ceilings and original wooden beams. Best of all are the panoramas across the water towards the city's shiny Opera House and Christiania: a view fit for royalty. ... more   less
