Scandic Palace Hotel
Ranked #23 of 117 Hotels in Copenhagen
Reviewed June 25, 2014

We stayed at the Palace Hotel for 5 nights. While the room was quite comfortable and the breakfast excellent, a few issues crept up. But first, the positive: one can not find a better central location. Importantly, it is only 700 meters from the rail station (note, those flying in should take the train then walk from Central Station). Once at the station, walk! During the day, it will cost up to 90 krone (about $15) and will take as long or even longer than walking. Likewise, the train is convenient for other travel around the country or even to nearby Sweden. The staff was friendly and generally helpful. Danes can speak English better than some Americans.

Our major problems were maintenance related. First, a light bulb had to be replaced, and that took a day. Second, there were numerous plumbing issues which not have even been occurring. Those took several days to rectify. For a 4-star hotel, none of these issues should have existed. We had to ask housekeeping for Kleenex (the box was almost empty). Finally, the tub is slippery without hand bars to help. They will not provide a rubber mat.

One final problem over which the hotel has no control is the Radhuis (city hall) clock. The tower is just across the street. From 12 midnight to 7 am we get bells every 15 minutes plus the hourly gongs. Trying to keep windows opened and sleeping is not a great idea.

Room Tip: Try for the inner courtyard. The clock tower is on the street side.

Dear dick_mary,

Thank you very much for staying with us and as well for posting your feedback!

- Please accept my apologies for the long wait of maintenance related issues to be fixed, this is clearly not up to standard and as well not how we normally operate.

The clock tower at City Hall Square.... it divides the waters, some find it charming being part of a city location, some find it somewhat disturbing. We have recently installed double layered doors and windows towards the square - a great improvement when seeking a good solid (and silent) nights sleep when staying in our rooms towards the square.

I hope to see you back again next year, and wish you all the very best.

Great hotel, in the middle of the city centre. Friendly staff. Comfortable beds. Was not thrilled with the elevators though. One was a normal elevator, and the other looked like an oversized dumb waiter.

Dear Adrian G,

Thank you very much for staying with us, and hope you enjoyed Copenhagen as well as the hotel.

The elevators are more are more or less original, and are not to be changes out to new ones as the property is categorized protected landmark.

- However I can reassure you, they are perfectly safe to use.

All the very best and hope to see you back.

Fabulous hotel in the best location. You can walk everywhere, eat everywhere and the city welcomes you. The staff are so friendly and helpful and go out of their way to assist you.
Loved every minute of this city and special thanks to everyone there.
Tivoli is the highlight of this area and a must see. Nyhavn as well.

I am very happy to see you had a great stay with us, and hope to see you back again at Scandic Palace.

With more or less all points of interest just outside the hotel main entrance, it is indeed a fantastic base to explore Wonderful, Wonderful Copenhagen.

When we walked in, I was discouraged as the hotel is old and I prefer new and shiny. However, the staff was so welcoming and reassuring as we got there at 10:30 a.m. And had to check in luggage while waiting for our room, ready at 2:30. We were given the wifi access, but had a bit of trouble logging on until a nice gentleman at the front desk helped both of us with our iPads. We enjoyed relaxing a while at the outdoor tables. We then walked across the street to City Hall for the tips only free city walking tour. it was informative but a little challenging for two seniors who had spent the night on a plane from Dulles, lasting over three hours at a pretty good clip. Returned to hotel and got our room which was more modern than expected, clean and comfortable, very quiet. We were quite satisfied. After showering and settling in, we walked the two blocks to the Tivoli Gardens and paid admission that did not include rides. it was a delightful place amd we had a great dinner before returning to the hotel bar for a drink. the only negative regarding the hotel was the fact that the AC was too weak on this unusually warm May day, Perfectly made mojitos made up for it! in the morning, the breakfast was included and we were totally impressed with the service and the broad selection of breads, meats, cheeses, eggs, fruits, and cappuccino. We sat outside until our cruise bus picked us up. I can't imagine a better start to a vacation than this perfectly located and well run hotel.

Room Tip: I wanted a street view, but the courtyard side is very quiet!

This hotel is situated at the city hall square at the very center of Copenhagen near Tivoli garden and Stroget, the main Shopping street and 5 minutes from the Central Train Station. The hotel is one of the first built in the city and has a history as old as the city itself. the outer building is very much in the same style as the City hall itself with an imposing clock tower.
The inside however has been completely renovated and rebuilt from the grounds up: the halls and corridors at the room floor are huge, large and with lot's of painting and remind a museum or palace and not a drab hotel, every room, every bathroom is completely new and tastefully designed. We stayed at a preferred room wich is slightly bigger. The bed are comfortable, the bathroom is huge altough because of the black tiles there is dirt accumulating from the hot water evaporation.
The hotel is offering a breakfeast we didn't try because of the many other cheaper options nearby.
The hotel is very good, in a location at the heart of the City wich make everything in the city at a walking distance, and the frequent promotions make this hotel a very good deal to stay for vacation in the City.

I stayed here recently on a two night break exploring Copenhagen. The hotel location is very good indeed located in the centre of the town and providing simple and easy access to the various attractions,Tivoli etc. Via taxi it will cost you approx 260 krone from the airport to the hotel.

Upon arrival I was provided with wifi access, room key etc. The wifi worked very well in my room (124) and in all other areas of the hotel including the seating area outside by the bar. I had ordered a superior room but this was not particularly amazing. The bathroom was very modern and the decor of the room modern with the usual mods but having looked at the photos and details of a standard room feel there is little between the two! The hallways are the most spacious I have ever seen and the hotel was quiet so provided good sleep.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful, happy to talk and provide assistance on places to visit.

Overall it was nice hotel and I would recommend.

Dear Gavin K,

Thank you for staying with us - I am happy to read that your overall impression was positive.

Our rooms have more or less the same features (coffee maker, safe, free WiFi, minibar etc.) however the placement of the room and square meters define the room class, e.g. double, superior, suite etc.

I can recommend you to stay i one of our Superior Plus rooms - facing the City Hall Square, and most including balcony offering a great view of the city.

Hope to see you back and take care!

We stayed on an inside room with a view of the back sides of the other hotel rooms but it was quiet. Our brother and his wife were literally sleepless because of the rocking music just down the street from the hotel. The hotel provided transfer to the cruise ship which was nice. The location of the hotel is great - just across from City Hall.

Room Tip: Make sure there are no festivities going on in the city.

Dear phyllis l,

Thank you for choosing Scandic Palace for your stay in Copenhagen!

Copenhagen do host a few festivals every year, and when it happens, is can be quite massive although always in good spirit.

I hope you despite one of these events got the best out of Copenhagen, and had a chance to explore our beautiful city.
