Scandic Palace Hotel
Ranked #23 of 118 Hotels in Copenhagen
Reviewed July 5, 2012

We stayed in Scandic Palace hotel for 3 nights at the beginning of June and one of the oldest hotels in Copenhagen is right in the front of Town Hall and beside Stroget / Walking Street.

The old world charm remains from the fact that the outdoor looks bit dated but once you are inside, its all about class.
We had a double room booked for us and on reaching the hotel, problem started. First we had to wait over an hour over the official check in time (taking into the fact that we had arrived actually 2 hrs earlier) but we had to wait in the lounge.

The hotel staff were helpful enough to carry our 5 huge suitcases to our room.
The room is nice and cosy - it had the provision of iron, tea maker, mini fridge and pretty large bathroom.

Sleep quality was really nice and the hotel's prime location made it easy for us to grab food and shopping.

Breakfast though was not as good as Scandic Copenhagen but nothing to worry!

In all, very nice and cosy in old time's new hotel!

Based on reviews on TripAdvisor, I spent a very comfortable week here in early June. I had reserved one of the smallest rooms, but it was large enough for my needs, and was very new with sweet historic touches. The location can't be beat, and the breakfast is very complete with many choices. It's a little bit pricey, but so is everything in Copenhagen!

Rooms are quite small but comfortable and clean. Bonus was the window opening to let fresh air into the room. Wardrobe sliding doors were a problem as they both slide to the centre so you have to reach round them to hang anything, and most of the space is taken up by an ironing board. Not great for business suits and shirts. In addition the bathroom basin is incredibly small even though there was room for a larger one. It made washing and shaving unneccessarily difficult. However, the rest of the facilities are fine. Corridors are spacious if dated and one of the two public lifts appeared to be a converted service lift. Be prepared to find groups of lost senior citizens who don't realise that you have to turn the handle to get out as the doors don't open autmatically. Some had been up and down several times ! The location is superb, right in the middle of the city and 10/15 minutes walk from Tivoli Gardens. However the square outside the hotel entrance is currently a building site due to the work that is going on all over the city. This will not complete anytime soon but didn't affect our stay. Taxis from the hotel in the morning were a nightmare. They are in short supply, most are not very helpful. and appear to choose who they take based on where the taxi driver wants to go. So get a taxi number and book them yourself or you could wait 45 minutes or more. I have heard people say the bell chiming on the hour was a problem but it wasn't for any of my group. Anyway it stops at midnight.

My husband and I just returned from our wonderful Baltic Sea cruise, and our last night was spent in this hotel. We had been spoiled on our Seabourn cruise, so perhaps my experience was a come down from that. I loved the location of this hotel, just across from one of the most impressive City Halls I have seen in the world. The square in front of it is under much construction, so it does hamper the entry experience somewhat. We bought a slightly upgraded room and had a back courtyard room, for which we were grateful. However, we had to ask housekeeping for a tiny bar of soap and the bathroom was just not very clean. The beds were comfy but I think they could have spent just a little more in the decorating scheme to enhance the overall experience in the rooms. We did not eat in the restaurant, as our plane home was early enough that we could not partake prior to the breakfast buffet opening time. I was able to use a complimentary computer tucked away upstairs from the lobby. Our closing experience was to several police cars that had been summoned at 7am for a fist fight on the pedestrian street just behind the hotel. Copenhagan is a very big party town and we were glad to move on.....

Room Tip: Back courtyard was good off the hustle of the main street in the front of the hotel.

My partner is Danish so visiting Denmark on a regular basis is a must for us we try and go every other year and for the past 3 times have stayed in the Scandi Palace the hotel is a very old hotel with character, good size rooms and very comfortable and depending where your room is sometimes the views are not brilliant but nice and quiet. The continental breakfast is superb with a wide choice of cereals, cheese ,cooked meats and much more, the fresh bread is so good and varied you want to try as many as possible. The bar is facing the square and can sit in there eating a snack watching the world go by or if a good day sit outside. It is the ideal spot in the centre of Copenhagen that makes the tourist spots within easy reach and tour buses outside the door with Tivoli across the square. There is no doubt next time we visit Copenhagen we shall return to this super hotel.

Room Tip: If you are at the front of the hotel the view is over the busy square but the back rooms face the co...

"Big, historic, impressive" - my first impressions of this hotel. "Grand" would also suit this venerable place. Nice, updated rooms (not huge or too fancy but clean, comfy and bright) and wonderful breakfast buffet. Located right on the main square, everything you would want to do is within walking distance. Nice cozy bar was a plus after a day of shopping and sightseeing. We had an inside/courtyard view room (through an oval window) and were not bothered by any noise at all. Be sure to read the brochure on the history of the place.

Room Tip: Ask for an inside/courtyard view room

The palace is well situated in Copenhagen with easy access to everything you want to see or need. The hotel is a classic old building with plenty of apeal, it must have been quite incredible in it's heyday. The rooms are spacious, by Scandinavian standards and have been recently refurbished, however there are a few design faults e.g. you need to be a contortionist to use the ironing board and I do not get the idea of a shower over a bath in this day and age?
The breakfast was generous and fresh and the staff are friendly and efficient, the concierge is particularly great. The gym is a great benefit although quite small it is well laid out with all you require for an on-the-road work out.

Room Tip: I would recommend rooms to the rear of the hotel and on higher floors as there is substantial work t...
