Conveniently located across the street from the crowded and lively Nyhaun harbor. Service i thought was kinda cold at the beginning but waitstaff more than made up for it. Good wine selection. Quality of ingredients and flavor, the creativity in presentation i thought were at par with other molecular gastronomic restaurants I've been to. Decor was sophisticated and inviting. The perfect culinary adventure before heading back home to the US!

We passed by Geist a couple of times while we were in Copenhagen. The tables outdoors were always full so today after seeing the changing of the guard at the place we headed there for a light lunch and were not disappointed. The menu is very different with a number of small plates. The zucchini, spinach, squid and quail with peas were fabulous! Very creative selection on the menu, good wine and service and, in summer being outdoors watching the passers by, this is the place to be.

Some of the dishes really works here and some are just too clever and complicated for their own good. The raw zucchini with curry is a little bit of a joke and the avocado with caviar is pretty tasteless, the charred beef is okay but so many restaurants around ( even in same area ) serve much better meat. The lobster tartare was okay and a bit of fun. The superstar dish of the night was the brown stone crab with mashed potatoes, this dish saved the night and is an absolute MUST if you go to Geist! The tiramisu ( modern version of course ) was not bad but I would always prefer the proper Italian one and the salted wasibi cream toffee was really delicious but will probably not be a crowd-pleaser. The ambience here is always good and the courtyard tables at the back of the restaurant is great for dinners during the summer. Both wines and food are quite pricey. Service is friendly but not particular professional.

The first night we arrived at Copenhagen, we asked the hotel reception desk to recommend a good restaurant for dinner and it was Geist. It was raining and windy but we were glad the restaurant was marginally within walking distance, and there was plenty of shops to browse on the way. The restaurant entrance is not fronting on the street but inside a courtyard which makes it look more exclusive. Decor in general is nice and the ambience cozy. The three of us were seated at a corner in the main dining area. There was only 20 selections on their two page English menu plus another ten choices for dessert on the back. The waiter who served us can communicate in English and he was extremely pleasant the entire night making recommendations on how to make our choices. To start with, their mushroom soup was great, and their bread exceptional. I had the tartare of Norway lobster with yuzu and hibiscus and the presentation was very creative and deceiving - a half cm spread on the plate which looked unsubstantial but was very filling. The lobster tartare was extremely fresh and very tasty with the compliment of yuzu and hibiscus. This is followed by potato mash with brown stone crab and salted butter, again presented in an unexpected foamy fashion, much like the molecular gastronomic version. The taste and texture were immaculate. I did not have room for dessert but I have no doubt that they would also excel. I would definitely return if I have the chance of passing through copenhagen again in the future.

Geist has a great cool vibe, beautiful lighting and decor. Beware that if you are booking online and don't understand Danish, if you book for 2 people, you will automatically be seated at the bar where you can watch the chefs work their magic. Larger booking are seating in the main dining room. The food was very creative, great flavors and beautiful presentation. Music was a bit all over the place. Expensive but worth it, great night out.
