Owner description: Christiansborg Palace is situated on the little island of Slotsholmen (Castle Island) which is surrounded by canals in the heart of Denmark's capital, Copenhagen. Denmark has one of the oldest monarchies in the world, and the palace has a long, dramatic history which revolves around the exercise of royal power. Today, Denmark is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system of governance. Under its beautiful copper roof, the palace houses the Danish parliament, the office of the Danish prime minister and the Supreme Court. It is therefore the center for legislative, executive and judicial power in Denmark. The palace also accommodates rooms for the Danish Monarchy. Focusing on the royal part of the palace, Christiansborg Palace is H.M. the Queen's working palace. This is where the Queen holds audiences, signs laws, holds banquets and receptions, celebrates royal anniversaries and receives state visits. It is a working palace where old traditions and the modern Royal Family meet. You will see dazzling halls, adorned with colorful tapestries, vast paintings, patterned floors, glittering chandeliers, and sumptuous stucco ceilings. You can explore The Royal Kitchen and see its two tons of shiny copper kitchenware. You can visit the beautiful palace chapel, stand underneath its dome and let your head spin as you gaze up at the angels in the ceiling décor more than 30 metres above you. In The Royal Stables you'll find the the white royal horses in the wintertime, and in the summertime the exhibition "All the kings' horses" - all year around you can see the Royal Family's array of carriages. One of them is coated with 24-carat gold leaf. You can also explore the underground ruins underneath Christiansborg Palace. These are ruins of earlier castles and palaces showing that the Castle Island is steeped in 800 years of power and political intrigue.

“Fascinating palace”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

We thoroughly enjoyed the palace. It was a bit lacking in information - I think an audio guide or some more information boards would have been welcome. However, it really is an impressive palace and worth every penny of the entrance fee. One word of warning - if you have size 11+ feet you may struggle to get the overshoes on as they're all in one size!! This in itself provided plenty of entertainment for the rest of the party.

“very nice”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

I felt I was transported to the middle age.... even I found a cavelier in one of the rooms! nice services including the souvenir shops and the coffee restaurant. The pics that I took were amazing. The timing and the tour explanation were perfect. They give you time for taking pics and to visit some áreas at your own.

“Easy access to a well furnished palace”
Reviewed September 7, 2013

Nothing to dislike. You can take your time and enjoy this well furnished palace. Photos are allowed too....no flash, but lighting is quite good. There is a small shop too with reasonably priced souvenirs. It's an easy walk from anywhere in the centre of town.

This palace was amazing, especialy the hall with the tapestry representing 100 years each.
The entrance hall is also beautiful. Take time to visit the shop, they have nice souvenirs, at reasonable prices.

“Enjoyable stop”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

Our entire family loved watching the changing of the guard since the USA has no royal family. Don't get to close to them though or they slam their gun on the pavement and the noise is startling (we witnessed this happen to a few tourists who were not aware of this). Stand a little off to the side & get some fun pictures of the guard & you. My daughter did a standing leg lift near the guard which amused some tourists. My son mimicked the stance the guard was in for his picture.
We also loved the architecture of the buildings.
This is a nice stop on the way to another attraction. We spent about an hour here.
