This hotel was recommended by Rick Steves. We found it to be a good stay. We are on the sixth floor with a larger room. However, it is still European small – especially the bathroom. Beds are comfortable and the staff is very helpful. It is about two blocks from the metro (which goes to the airport )and about a 10 block walk to the canals. There is an extensive outdoor market/vendors a block and a half away for breakfast and lunch. The room is clean, modern, and has good free Wi-Fi. We have four windows opening to the courtyard/outside restaurant and it is noisy.

I came back to this hotel only because the sister hotel Kong Arthur didn't have a space for me and two of my coworkers for the last night of a business trip to Copenhagen. The rest of the group was at the Kong Arthur.

Here are my thoughts...
- It looks like the rooms have been renovated but in a cheap sort of way. I absolutely HATE the carpet. It just feels dirty to me.
- This is an old hotel so the rooms vary in size and shape. This time I was give a large room that faced the inner courtyard. The bad thing about that is that the courtyard is also a restaurant and can get noisy.
- There is no A/C in the hotel so you have to open the window and therefore the noise could be a problem.
- It is on the corner of a quiet street and is close to restaurants, the Torvehallerne market, botanical gardens
- The bathroom is the shower but luckily, this time there was a shower curtain so that whole bathroom didn't get wet. This bathroom was bigger than the last time I was there.
-The room and bathroom were twice the size of the room I had at the Kong Arthur but lower in price.
-The breakfast was eggs, cheese, veggies, fruit, yogurt, breads. Everything is supposed to be organic. The girls serving in the morning were not very friendly and it took them forever to set up the breakfast. We arrived downstairs at 7 and they still weren't finished getting it together by 7:30
-Internet was free and generally good
-The flat screen tv had a lot of cable channels in English
-There was an iron and board hanging on the wall in the hall
-There was only one person working the front desk. I had to wait forever to check out. None of the girls in the restaurant can help so don't even ask them.

For me the room just feels dirty maybe because of the carpet. Too bad they didn't expose the hardwood floors or even fake wood floors would be better than that carpet.

Dear traveler

Thank you for taking your time to write a thorough review.

I don’t know when you stayed here the last time, but I guess it must have been several years ago, since Ibsens hotel was refurbished in 2011. The refurbishment was carried out by a well-known Danish interior designer, Morten Hedegaard. The idea was to mix vintage and local designers (from the street the hotel is situated in – Nansensgade). Another major design contributer is Hay that you might know. Many of our guests love the new a and very personal style of Ibsens Hotel, but of course it is not to everybodys liking.

Regarding the more specific points:
- The rooms comes with and without carpets. Just ask for a room without in reception.
- We don‘t have A/C installed because 1. In Denmark we have few days during a year where A/C is necessary 2. A/C have a negative impact on the environment
- Both Ibsens Hotel And Hotel Kong Arthur have rooms of many sizes. Make sure to read about the sizes of the different room categories at our website before you make your reservation. Doing so, the matching of expectations will be improved.

Having said all that, we are glad that you after all appreciated parts of your stay!

All the best
Marie Thyssen / Ibsens Hotel

The hotel was very nice and charming. It was easily reached by metro from the airport and walking distance form the main attractions in the center. The staff was helpful and they even printed us a schedule when we needed to go a bit outside the city center by bus. The rooms were clean but quite small.

This little hotel is out of the main area of downtown Copenhagen, so a bit of walking is involved, or an expensive taxi ride. Fabulous staff who did all they could to make amends for transferring us to another property after overbooking the hotel. Great breakfast. Nice Italian restaurant attached to the hotel.

Room Tip: Make sure they don't overbook and try to transfer you to the Astoria, as happened to us!

Arrived really tired and was looking forward to a good night sleep. The hotel looks maybe nicer on the website than in reality. It still has a trendy & contemporary vibe though. The room was okay, very spacious but nothing out of the ordinary. It had a very nice and large double bed (we had the 'medium' room). The problem was the noise from the street..if your are in town to party and stay up late this would be no problem (it is actually ideal for it due to the location)..but I needed to get some sleep and I'm also unfortunately a very light sleeper. I asked the staff if there was any possibility to change to a room facing the inner yard. The hotel was unfortunately sold out but they took my request seriously and for the remaining 2 nights of our 3 day stay we were transferred to a quiet & nice room in the sister hotel around the corner Kong Arthur for no extra charge. Awesome service, very happy customer!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the inner yard if you are a light sleeper.

Copenhagen Ibsens Hotel

We finished our Baltic cruise and wanted to stay one more day in Copenhagen before we flew home. For our one night stay we picked the Ibsens Hotel because it was convenient to the rail station and the train to the airport. This didn’t work as well as we expected because the Norreport station was being renovated. It is going to be really nice when it is done.

We disembarked our ship at 9am so we were ready to go being a tourist again in beautiful Copenhagen. It was way too early to check into our hotel but we also did not want to lug around our bags. The folks at Ibsens were really nice when they gave us the code to the secure luggage room in the basement and we got rid of our bags for the rest of the day. We took off to tour the National Museum and Tivoli Gardens before checking for real to the hotel.

As we got back to check in we noticed a stage was being set up along with some drinking tables directly in front of the hotel’s entrance. We were told that there was a celebration with bands planned for the weekend. We immediately asked the hotel clerk if we could have a room as far away from the noise as possible.

The clerk gave us a nice room on the top floor. We had a nice view of the street out the dormer of our room. The window looked down on the party below but it was quite far away. We did hear the music but we also elected the theory that if you can’t beat them join them and so we went down to have a beer then check out the crowds of young adults dancing and drinking in the streets. For the most part everyone was happy and very well behaved.

Our bed was awesome. It was a big comfortable soft matress. The room itself was rather drab, simple black and white, with a writing desk, tv, small cabinet with extra blankets and pillows. There is a nice TV that can read USB/mp4 files and there is access to free wireless.

Marla really liked the hotel’s meet and greet in the late afternoon. We stopped for a nice glass of wine and met some of the hotel’s other guests. Most people staying there seem to like the hotel.

We had made the reservations for the hotel using Expedia and there was zero problems with the check in or check out. As with other hotels in Copenhagen we found the room to be very clean and safe. The neighbourhood is very interesting. It is a little more upscale than places closer to the main train station. We discovered a really nice market area with a few food trucks within a block from the hotel. It made for cheap dining and a very good night out.

When we return to Copenhagen, Ibsen’s would be a first choice for its location, value and quality.

Room Tip: For your meals go to Torvehallerne, the food market a block and half away from the hotel. It has gr...

This hotel was in a great location. It is close to the university and has lots of little shops, bars, and cafes nearby. We arrived to find the 5th member of our group enjoying music and a cold beer at the bar across the street. The bar was celebrating an anniversary. The live entertainment went on until around midnight. Unbeknownst to us we arrived for the start of Distortion Fest. We went for a walk north of the hotel across one of the canals and found the sights and sounds of Distortion. It was wild and crazy as it should be and we 5 oldsters had a great time before making our way back early in the evening to the Old Town area.

The hotel was charming. Really a different sort of vibe to it. We had booked a large room and were really pleased. It was clean and had a view of the street below. The hotel had a "cozy hour" that we took advantage of. The staff was always charming and most helpul. The fireplace was a very welcoming place to sit as the weather had cooled off and was a bit rainy. We didn't have breakfast there but it seemed a number of people did. We walked all over the place and went on a canal cruise one day and visited the Tivoli Gardens.

Good hotel, in a great location and a wonderful place to stay.

Room Tip: We had a room over the street. Could not say how busy and noisy it would be normally as Distortion a...
