Owner description: The National Museum of Denmark is the largest culture-historical museum in Denmark. The museum is a dynamic cultural institution offering a great variety of exhibitions and activities. Our artefacts come from all over the world and from different time periods. We can take you on a journey, traveling thousands of years through time and experience everything from the Danish national treasure the Golden Horns and the 3000 year old Egtved Girl to African masks and Egyptian mummies. In the Children's Museum, you can see and try things that show how people ate, worked, played and dressed hundreds of years ago in different environments.

“Fantastic!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 11, 2013

We really loved this museum. Incredibly well done and lovely to see history from another vantage point. Excellent use and mix of English and Danish in exhibitions. Also, perfectly behaved Danish children visiting museum were also very impressive.

I really loved this museum! 'Nationalmuseet' was so big and it was free of charge! Staff was very helpful.

“Outstanding collection of historical objects and folk art etc.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 28, 2013

This was our second visit to this excellent museum where we find the wooden folk art objects of special interest to us. However, there is much more here including a fascinating section of 'eskimo' clothing and artefacts. There is also a chronological series of rooms with archaeological finds over the ages including burials and amazing musical instruments in the forms of huge curled horns. There is a useful cafe for lunch where they also offer a special brunch at weekends at a fixed price when you can eat as much as you like.

“Interesting museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 27, 2013

I was shocked by just how big the museum is. Each of the exhibitions houses around 25 different rooms which have a large amount of artefacts and text to take in. Very thorough and very informative.

After spending 45 minutes looking through just the first 6 rooms of the Danish prehistory exhibition, I decided to speed things up. I chose to leave the 'histories of the world' room as I can see similar exhibitions back home in London and decided to focus on the Danish history rooms too.

For a free museum, this is a good place to spend a few hours.

Cafe available on the first floor and gift shop on the ground floor.

Tip: Bags are not permitted in the museum and must be placed in a secure locker (key provided) for a 10KR deposit.

Tip 2: All of the staff are very helpful and I was given a very detailed map of Copenhagen from the information desk. I used this for the rest of the weekend and found my way around perfectly so I'd recommend asking for one.

“Interesting and easy-going”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2013

We only had time to see the pre-history section, which was very interesting. The layout works very well, striking a great balance between written detail, graphics and artefacts. Some of the rooms are stunning, particularly the long boat.
