“Nice lunch, slightly disappointed.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2012

We had been recommended here for lunch by Noma, our hotel and a Danish friend so had very high expectations. I had the plaice which was delicious my friend had the herring in sherry which wasn't to her taste. The duck pate was average, but the service was good. We were practically sitting on the same table as the people next to us so not much privacy.

“Very good tradional Danish dishes”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2012

Excellent lunch. Ask for recommendations and try their own beer and snaps. Book early in advance, impossible to get a table without booking.

“Great traditional open sandwiches. They pack you in there!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2012

A busy and old fashioned restaurant serving traditional open top sandwiches from about 70 Kroner up. The locals seem to go here as well as tourists, and you'll be packed in close with other diners.

We had herring (one dish of around 20 different types of herring) and salmon which were both great. Plus the local beer.

The locals all seem to go for 2 plates each, (although one big 1500 Kroner plate is enough) along with beer and schnapps and make an afternoon of it, something our friendly and slightly eccentric waiter was keen to point out.

Go, it's fun,

“Delicious smørrebrød, but too pricey for what you get!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2012

The smørrebrød (open-faced sandwich) was in my Eat list when I visited Copenhagen and after some Googling, I stumbled upon Restaurant Schoennemann as the place to go for the best smørrebrød. So I called in a week in advance to make reservations. The restaurant itself has a cozy, old home ambiance but with fancy plates and silverware.

I cannot attest to whether Schoennemann does offer the best smørrebrød, since this was my one and only smørrebrød experience. However, they do offer a wide selection so there should at least be one type that will suit each person in your party. We enjoyed the smørrebrøds we ordered, at least while they lasted. The portion is small (by North American standards at least). It is not enough to qualify for a meal. The prices are steep, considering the amount of food you get. Also, despite how good the smørrebrød may be, it is still just a sandwich.

“Classic place for smørrebrød”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2012

Found out about this place from an article in the NY Times and I am glad we went. Small and cozy. I had the salmon smørrebrød with spinach and poached egg. Scrumptious. My son had one with herring and potatoes that also was very tasty. Definitely try their house ale and a small glass of aquavit. The service was professional and never hovering. Reservations a must. Not to be missed.
