STAY Copenhagen
Reviewed October 14, 2012

We held our wedding at this hotel, and rented a room for the night, so I can give a confident review. First a little about the hotel...

The building is called the A-house, because of the formation. It was modernized with the intention for rental apartments, but it didn't succeed. Then HAY bought the buildning, turning it into a design concept hotel. It's minimalistic mostly in black and white with some green details. But around the buildning you can see some wild pop art paintings. It's done by an artist who has his studio in the ground floot (around the corner). By the way, STAY is in a part of Copenhagen that (still) has free parking. Good to know if you travel by car.

About the room: Since it was build for rental apartments, the rooms at STAY are big - sometimes huge - and has all the facilities to live there. Dining table, kitchen, big bathroom, balcony, couches, flat screen tv. But you don't pay anymore that you normally would do at a 3 or 4 star hotel. The stylish materials are all new. Great if you're a bit tired of worn down hotels.

About the place: STAY is at Islands Brygge, a restored part of Copenhagen with many architectural buildings, but not many cafes. It's not in the center of copenhagen (around 30 minutes walking distance from center), but it's pretty close to the airport. You can get to STAY in a taxi in about 10-15 minutes.

The keyword is "Design", and STAY really delivers.

Just spent the weekend here. The apartment was wonderful - spacious, comfortable, clean and well equipped. Loved the black and white minimalism. Reception staff very friendly but did give us wrong info on a couple of occasions. Supermarket was good and so was the Italian restaurant just up the road. Slightly too far out for us but our choice to walk everywhere rather than hire a bike or take a taxi. Having been out and about all of our last day, we opted to stay in on our last evening - cooked a meal, watched some TV and chilled out - bliss!

Truly great apartment rooms. Stayed in a 2 bed apartment with my family. the apartments are extremely spacious, modern and well supplied with cooking and entertainment devices. There is a food store on the ground floor that sells most supplies to keep you going albeit a bit pricey (this is Copenhagen so get used to the term pricey).

The walk into the city runs along the water front and takes about 20 to 30 mins although you can catch a bus at the entrance to the apartments, they run about every 20 mins.

I would recommend staying here with one proviso, we stayed during a rare heatwave (Aug 2012) and there is no air conditioning, this made the bedrooms really hot and uncomfortable, for this reason I would not stay there in the summer again but would at any other time of year.

The apartment is huge and far nicer then the pictures, the designer furnishings are all of an excellent quality, functional and comfortable. Reception is also resourceful, helpful and very friendly. Even though the location is a bit off, there is a very nice bakery, restaurant, take out place and supermarket all within the building. Biking to town is very convenient and within 15 minutes. Also very handy to have a full size washer and dryer in the apartment.

The apartment obviously has a very strong and cool design theme, it is generally very well executed. the lack of horizontal counter space in the bedroom disciplines you to put everything in the closet shelves, which is still workable and not necessarily a bad idea.

The biggest problem is in the bathroom. Without a shower curtain, the entire bathroom becomes wet, the choice of a glossy floor tile makes it slippery and dangerous. The floor is also not leveled so the water doe not darin itself. There is also no counter top space anywhere which makes it difficult to organize any toiletry.

This Hotel has everything almost right - they really should redesign the bath. There is no reason why the bath cannot be 'pure' and functional at the same time.

These are fantastic huge apartments that are well equiped and very modern. Does not have full hotel facilities but staff are good. Located close to but not in city centre but well worth a stay. Price is not bad, not cheap but some rooms are very large.

This minimalist apartment was ultra trendy. But fashion hurts, baby! There is nowhere to place your shower toiletries or towel after a shower, but then again you'll need your towel on the floor to dry the massive puddle from the shower. But don't be sentimental, it's a rental!

The place is like living in a house magazine designer apartment for a weekend, so live it up. We got a few ideas for our new house. The street noise can be relatively intense, minimal insulation to sound. We were on third floor and could hear people talking on the street. Luckily it is a relatively quiet area.

It's a little out of town but we walked it. Twice.

Overall, I'd stay there again.

We are staying here for a week right now. It is nice to go out and dine in restaurants when on holiday, but it is also very convenient not to be dependent on having to do that all the time. The Stay apartments are very spacious, and have a fully equipped kitchen complete with fridge, freezer, stove, microwave and coffee maker. Cutlery and china for four people in our flat that sleeps 2. There is also a washing machine, drier and ironing equipment. But no washing powder or detergent for the dishwasher. You can get that in the supermarket on the ground floor, but if I had known this and only were staying for a weekend, I'd have brought my own.
There are only two small towels in the bathroom - not enough in this heat when you feel like showering all the time. The drier helps, but I'd love a couple of bigger towels.
The weather is hot, so we feel the lack of air condition, but that would not usually be a problem in Copenhagen. We open the balcony doors, but that if course lets in a bit of noise.
There is no place to hang your clothes, apart from a small dumbwaiter. There are a couple of quite spacious cupboards, though, so I don't think this is a big problem. I also do not experience the shower problem that a lot of people tell about. The shower corner gets wet, but certainly not the whole bathroom. Maybe they splash about more than me when showering?
The location is great. The neighbourhood is nice, but a bit away from the city center. We have rented bikes. They are good, but pricey. 150 DKK per day is steep. However, a bit of haggling and pointing out that we would own the bikes at the end of the week got us a reasonable price :-) Biking is what the Danes do to get around, and it is really the perfect transport here. You can also reach the city center by boat or other public transport. Free internet connection. There is a small supermarket, bakery, restaurant , hairdresser and gym on the ground floor. Fisketorvet, the biggest shopping center in town is 10 min walk.
