Wakeup Copenhagen Carsten Niebuhrs Gade
Ranked #39 of 118 Hotels in Copenhagen
Reviewed January 28, 2013

If you're looking for somewhere cheap and stable for a trip to Copenhagen I recommend staying here. Basically, if you are young and/or easy going this place is ideal. I was very impressed with the place considering the tiny price paid compared to the other hotels I've stayed in for much more.

Don't expect anything fancy, but the hotel is all brand new, always a good start. You get a nice new television with loads of channels. Bed was fine, covers fine- went in winter and wasn't cold at all. No other furniture really as rooms are very small. Very clean, staff came daily.

WiFi didn't really work well in the room which was a bit annoying... and there was breakfast available but not included in the price I paid. Again, if you're bothered about saving money then you don't really mind about where/when you eat. I had breakfast cereal bars!

Room was small. But why would you stay in your room?!

Ensure you're mobile if you stay here... there's a 5-10 minute walk to the nearest station. However, station wasn't really needed for me. Walked everywhere in Copenhagen, it's a tiny city. Taxi home in the evenings, literally 5-10 minutes from anywhere central. Might be a bit of a creepy desolate walk late at night for women.

Great views from the top floors too. Good value for budget travelers. 100000 times better than a hostel.

Basic, simple hotel near central railway station. But if you seek, you can find something more nice. Room was very cold, but clean and plastic materials seem to be modern.

Breakfast was poor, I reccommend you to go elsewhere to eat at the same price you can find so nice places to get some good coffee and croissants.

Service was not so smiley, I've seen better in cheap hotels, even cheaper than this.

We stayed at the WakeUp for one night at the beginning of December, with 2 adjoining rooms for the 3 adults in our group. Some have described it as far from the city centre but really its only a couple of blocks from the central station, a 5-10 min walk at the most (to get there from Kobenhavn H, exit right from the main entrance at station (opposite Tivoli), cross the road and go past the post centre before turning right again and heading down the road- the hotel will be on the left). The most negative aspect of the stay would be that they charge you to leave your bags- you have to take them down to the locker room yourself and have the correct change- the hotel will change money for you though. I stayed at a few hotels during my trip, some being quite basic and no other hotel charged for this service. The room however was quite nice- compact, but with everything you need (no in room phone but free wifi). The bathroom pod was a fun touch, frosted enough that you don't have to worry about privacy. We didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment on that, however all in all the WakeUp Copenhagen is a good value hotel and a good option for those looking to visit Copenhagen.

We stayed at Wakeup CopenHagen hotel for 3 nights at the end of December and are very glad with the undertaken decision. You can easily get there by train from Kastrup Airport for 36 DKK, several stops take about 15 min. The hotel is located next to the central railway station and not far from the city center, close to Tivoli gardens. It's clean, modern and rather affordable. The luggage storage box at the hotel will cost you additionally 20 DKK, to hire a bike is incredibly expensive about 110 DKK per day!! Breakfast costs about 60 DKK per person- quite simple: bread, juice, tea, coffee, milk, cornflakes, cheese and ham, apple. The room is small but if you stay in Copenhagen for several days and need a place to sleep it's just what you need. No more no less.

Close to train station & Tivoli gardens. Nice room. It was small but all you need for a short stay. Good wifi and excellent shower. Comfortable bed. I had no complaints and would stay here again.
Only thing to mention is that if a double room is booked they only prepare the bed for 1 person incase only 1 person checks in - to prevent unnecessary washing of linen. But was no problem as everything you need is in a draw under the bed and its not hard to pull out an extra duvet and towel.

Room Tip: Higher floors will have a better view out the window but its not really that important

Stayed as a couple for 3 nights from December 28th 2012. Booked as a package via Lastminute.com with Easyjet flights from Bristol, UK at approx £200pp.

The hotel is in a great location for central Copenhagen. Being a small city, everything is within walking distance. We had not visited the city before but did not get a bus, metro, train or taxi in 4 days. The hotel is approx 5mins walk from Copenhagen Central station and Tivoli. Stroget and Rundetarn 10-15 minutes walk, Nyhavn 15-20minutes, Christiania and Rosenborg Slot 20-25 minutes walk and Little Mermaid and Kastelln around half an hour. Great location and very quiet road. Literally off the plane and onto train (about 10 mins and 35 dkr).

Hotel facilities- Very clean and modern common parts. Hotel staff were friendly and everyone in Copenhagen seems to speak perfect English. Lift to all floors and 24hr reception and shop. Baggage hold costs 20dkr. There is also free wifi and a laundry room with iron. Quick check in/out machines also available.

Rooms- Rooms were compact but had everything we needed. Spacious and comfortable double bed, cable tv with several English channels, free wifi in room, shower, wc etc. Room was spotless when we arrived and was kept this way by maid throughout stay. We were on the 3rd floor and window overlooked train tracks but couldn't hear trains.

Copenhagen- It is expensive! If you are reading this then you have been warned. Beer is just over £6 a pint and a bottle of water can easily set you back £3 or more. Street food and newsagents are good options for cheap food and drink and also found a pub on Stroget called Streckers serving pub style food for well under half price of everywhere else. Attractions were reasonably priced- Rundetarn was around £10, boat trip from Nyhavn around £12 and Tivoli about the same for entry to the park only.
Copenhagen itself is a fantastic city and nothing like any city in the UK! The people are really friendly, it is incredibly clean, the architecture is unique, shopping is brilliant and is one of the most under populated, compact cities I have ever visited. I could not recommend it strongly enough and Wakeup is a good base for your stay.

A couple of things to keep in mind....
The weather is similar, if not a little colder than UK however being surrounded by water has a cooling effect!
We stayed after Christmas and Tivoli had a firework festival throughout the week. We found that everyone, including many homeless people, set off fireworks constantly for the 4 days we were there!
Before we went, we saw a few reviews saying the hotel was in the red light district. This is incorrect as it is located the other side of the railway station. The hotel is actually on a quiet street behind Copenhagen Post Office.
Take plenty of money for your stay!
Go to Christiania before it is handed back to the Danish Authorities.

Great hotel. Breakfast is fine, the rooms are small but also fine and clean (if you go alone) and service is great.

Can only recommend this hotel - especially if you are just staying for a couple of days.
