“Bad location, so so service”
Reviewed October 18, 2010

We spent 3 nights at the Nimb recently. I picked the hotel based on the prevailing understanding that it is the only true high end boutique hotel in the city.
First of all, I was very surprised by the location when the the cab dropped me off. The entrance is directly across the street from the central train station. Therefore, the area is loud, busy and a bit seedy. It is not in the beautiful part of Copenhagen. In addition, the location is not convenient to the center of the city. It's a bit out of the way.
Secondly, I had called to make dinner arrangements for each night. I discovered later that none of the reservations were made. They did try had to correct the situation and covered our wine cost for one dinner. Cosidering the hotel only has 13 room, and considering the close to $700 room price they are charging, I would have expected much service.
Thirldly, there is a big bar on the same level as the rooms. It attracted people from out side of the hotel. When the bar guests leave, they actually have to pass the rooms. One night, the foot steps were so lound (as if people were jumping), the lamp on the night stand shook. That was in the middle of the night
Having said that, I think the hotel is beautifully decorated and very chic. Restaurant Herman was excellent.
However, I don't think the price/value is there due to the poor location, and the fact that one does not feel you are in an exclusive hotel.

We had two nights in Copenhagen at the end of a cruise. We chose the Nimb because of its location on the edge of the Tivoli gardens, and also because we knew that we'd be able to have excellent food without leaving the hotel. The service was excellent - when we arrived before our room was ready, we were given complimentary breakfast - and our six-year-old daughter was made to feel just as welcome as we were. Dinner in the Brasserie was excellent, and vegetarians (including small ones) were catered for without any problem. Copenhagen is an expensive city, and this is reflected in the price of the hotel. But if we're lucky enough to return, we wouldn't hesitate to book the Nimb again.

Hotel Nimb is a beautiful hotel overlooking the Tivoli Gardens. We were able to wander in and out of the Gardens which was an extra bonus. The hotel is amazing with beautifully appointed rooms and bathrooms, with no expense spared. Breakfast was also lovely.
We had a lovely time and will definitely stay there again if we return to Copenhagen.

The Nimb is a very special small hotel with 12 or 13 rooms only. Try to book a package, since the rack rates are rather high and might scare you off.
The hotel itself is place right in the Tivoli area, opening to the park and to the public street on the other side. It has it's own dairy, bakery and two restaurants: Herman, which is a fanstic place and a lovely wine bar / lounge / cellar to have a night cap.
The restaurant serves a 4,5,6 or 7 course meal - but you get at least another 5-7 courses, with all the amuse bouches, etc.
The rooms are quite eceltic, the decor Moorish style as the hotel - so be prepared!

Planning a short two days in Copenhagen, I was put off by the reviews of the d'Angleterre... it seems to have been neglected, and the photos I saw of the massive construction project directly in front of the hotel sealed it. Nimb got excellent reviews, with some reservations about the location in the Tivoli amusement park.
Our arrival was excellent. The front desk manager took our bags and showed us to our room - the hotel's "best" 1BR suite, #12. It is a corner room overlooking the park and an absolutely hideous stage - the view is seriously downgraded by the cables and scaffolds. This is far too big a contraption to be temporary. The room was eclectic in decoration, with dark woods and light fabrics, and a hodgepoge of styles, inside a fabulously kitschy Moroccan fretwork shell. It all worked well enough, though, except the stupidly tiny bed tables and preposterously dim reading lights. The bath was large and excellent, great towels and nice complimentary ginger-based cosmetics.

Nimb is massively and self-consciously Euro-cool, that kind of sad too-tight shirt and 4-button jacket kind of semi-slavic 10-years behind hip. But, that's OK, because I have no doubt it is the closest thing to a true 5-star boutique hotel in Copenhagen. The service could not have been better. Our complaint about no a/c was met with instant delivery of fans. and the cool rainy weather that set in cured the problem anyway. The only issue is that no a/c means you have to open the windows, and when you do that the noise and sounds of the amusement park below filter in. Our first afternoon, a rather pathetic choral group of about 30 40-something women were doing a capella numbers on the stage, and let me tell you, you haven't lived until you've tried to take a nap to three dozen Danish women singing "They Tried to Make Me Go to Rehab" slightly off key, off accent and off beat!! OMG!!

While the back of the hotel opens up onto the Tivoli, Nimb is located in what feels like the Times Square or Piccadilly of Copenhagen, which is a great walking city. There's a Hard Rock on the corner, and the train station across the way. The streets were packed with what I could only call a motley mix of backpackers and working class tourists, explained by our driver as the product of some 300 cruise ships that dock in the port at any one time, many of them budget ships from the Baltic states. Nonetheless, Copenhagen is scrupulously clean, and quite engaging, with substantial pedestrian shopping streets, Nimb's location makes everything accessible, and as a truly jaded NYC couple, we never felt the slightest bit of danger or discomfort even at late hours.

The food at Nimb is quite good, with one gourmet restaurant, and two other options. It's all a bit pricey, but we also had two good meals at a couple of the outdoor cafes in the Tivoli, which is thoroughly landscaped and tended and policed. Sick of seafood from four days in Sweden, we stuck to tapas and Italian food most of the time, and it was all good.

In all, Nimb is a fine choice is you can live with some extra noise outside. The Tivoli is a pleasant evening stroll, and you can play stupid carnival games or take some typical rides if that is your (or your kids') wont. The interior bar at Nimb is cavernous and weird, and desperately needs windows - it manages to be airless and claustrophobic despite the dimensions of an indoor tennis court. We took out drinks outside on the terrace when it wasn't raining. The service and staff could not have been nicer or more helpful, and the car and driver they provided were perfect -- the driver was an excellent tour guide, and knew some good shops and restaurants.

If you can fund humor in the "hipness" pose and the Tivoli, Nimb is a fine choice -- comfy and convenient.

Staying at the Nimb is not only a treat but it also provides one with an ideal location to explore Copenhagen. The room was lovely, overlooking the Tivoli Gardens, and booking a room at the Nimb allows one entry into Tivoli at any time, no fee paid. The bedroom was spacious and the bed and bedding were excellent. At the price expended, however, the package fell short. Although the antiques in the room are lovely, there is little provision to store personal belongings. And despite the generous dimensions of the room, one is forced, at least to some degree, to live out of a suitcase. The bathroom is poorly designed with no space to place toiletries and the shower, although it looked engaging, was disfunctional. Water poured out of the overhead showerhead randomly at the lip, not through the shower head pores, for a final effect of drowning. Although a complaint was lodged at the front desk, a visit to the room was made by the concierge who self-admittedly knew nothing of plumbing, and no repair was made. It is to be noted that this occured on a weekend, but still.... Good breakfasts and quite exceptional hotel restaurant (Restaurant Herman), along with location, made the choice of Nimb acceptable but overpriced.

Spent one night at the Nimb last week. Wonderful. Arrived at 8:30am too early for check-in. The desk manager offered me breakfast (beautiful and delicious on the terrace overlooking the Tivoli Gardens), checked my bags and gave me directions to the type of shopping I wanted to do that morning. Came back at noon when they promptly checked me in to a stunning room. Lightly colored wooden floors, sitting area with two loveseats; antique armoire; large bathroom with "egg" tub and separate shower; comfortable modern bed. Staff gave me directions to a running routes around the stunning in town lakes 5 minutes from the hotel. Wow!

The Nimb has two restaurants of its own plus the attached Anderson Bakery. Don't miss the bakery's gourmet hot dogs to go. First $10 hot dog of my life, but worth it. Dinner at Brasserie was fine. Didn't make it to Michelin 1 star Herman.

Expensive. But, the Nimb is worth it!
