“Central hotel with old world charm”
Reviewed April 13, 2014

We spent 1 night in this hotel while travelling around Denmark. It is located in the centre of the city and very handy to everything. Some staff were friendly and the downstairs area of the hotel is very old world with big comfortable chairs to relax in. They provide tea/coffee anytime of the day/night. Free wi, free parking and the breakfast is good. The triple room we stayed in was big, clean and everything we needed. No complaints from us. Nice place to spend a few days. If you are looking for a nice comfortable hotel this is for you. Only problem and this is not the hotel's fault the noise from outside around 2 am when revellers walk past the hotel and also there were revellers staying in the hotel that were coming in around 2 am.

Room Tip: Find a room that is away from the street noise.

This is a typical hotel for a city like Esbjerg, not a small city, but not a big one either.

The hotel is a little old fashioned - in a good way, with a lot of atmosphere. It has modern fine rooms with free internet, and the staff is very service minded, and professional.

Central location and free parking completes a good experience.

Stayed here on business as result of trip advisor rating and reviews.
What a let down!!
Let's start with the good bits...The downstairs lounge area is nice with good seating, free wifi and free coffee/tea. It is in the town centre. The room was very clean.

However, the rooms are like staying in a hostel, very small, very dated and very thin walls. The bed was not comfortable.
I stayed 3 nights and did not get one good nights sleep.
The breakfast was sparse and the same each morning. All ingredients seemed to be the cheapest available.
I had a glance at other rooms when the cleaners were there in the morning, perhaps I just had the 'bad room - #232' but they all seemed to be the same, just others perhaps larger if a double.
I have posted some pictures of the room, corridor and hotel exterior.

I would not stay there again, and have shown my company who will not put our staff up in this hotel.

A good revamping and renovation would help, but having said that, here is the deal:
centrally located, free parking, friendly staff, clean and adequate room, fully no smoking hotel, large flat screen TV, free tea/coffee in the lobby at night, all for 100,00 euro... the only let down is the breakfast, really poor in my opinion.

Although only spent one night here, was impressed with the friendly staff. Room was clean if not a tad small, decor could do with a bit upgrading. A few items in the room were a not working of poorly fitted.
Well suited for the busy square, unfortunately my room was on the way home for the boozy revellers, even at 2am it was still noisy outside.
Breakfast was good, but with no evening meal facilities, means a trek to find somewhere to eat - a bit of a drag after a long day.
Overall though, good enough for a one night stay.

We have just returned having spent two nights at this hotel, our room was at the front. The room was modern with a huge bathroom and large flat screen TV. The hotel is centrally located in Esbjerg, 10 metres from the square, with various eateries around it, and across the road a small park.

The reception staff are friendly and very helpful. Any questions we asked, if they didn't know - a quick Google and the answers were there. Dite was particularly helpful and took it as a challenge to find out train times and bus routes for us.

The breakfast was extremely good, hot and cold buffet with a note saying if you wanted boiled eggs, just ask. There was tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits free in the lounge all day, it was a large lounge with comfy chairs and sofas that made you feel at home.

I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone who does not like the chains, so nice to stay in an independant place employing local people who know about the area and are proud of their traditions.

If you are taking the ferry there is a number 5 bus from the harbour to the hotel. Do not expect to catch this as the bus is scheduled to leave 5 minutes after the ferry allows foot passengers off. So as you are just getting to passport control, the bus sails off. Who says it just the UK that doesn't have integrated public transport.

Room Tip: Danes like motor bikes so the rooms at the front of the hotel can be affected by noise.

We spent one night in the Hotel Ansgar on a trip with friends.

It is located in the centre of the city, very close to the central square.

The lobby is a nice mix between old and new furniture, the people are very helpful and friendly.
The furniture of the room is modern, simple and clean. Bathroom small and recently renovated.

The breakfast was simple and good. Free car park is available as well.

I can recommend the hotel for family or friends,

Room Tip: If you are interested in a quiet room, ask for a room facing away from Skolegade. This street is use...
