“One of the best burgers in Århus”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 15, 2013

Me and my wife visited Hot Buns on saturday the 11th of may, for a quick meal before heading out for drinks.

It was almost full, so we had to wait a bit for the table, but as we hadn't reserved it was ok.

We were asked if we would wait in the bar, and got served a beer. I wouldnt mind a better beer selection, but the bartender told me, that they are soon improving the selection with some american beer - great.

We got a table in a cosy cornerbooth, ordered a Bullfighter and a Hangover. My wife had the Bullfighter and she was very pleased. Both burgers were big and filling, especially the Hangover - almost too big. Everything tasted homemade as they state on the menu. We felt it was good value, as it tasted good, food was plenty and the burgers only cost around 100kr. - pretty cheap in Denmark for this quality.

The vibe was pretty good, and a lot of people had beers and drinks along with their food, so we ended up staying for several hours, and had drinks there.

We will definately come back another time.

“This place might not be around for long”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2013

Gourmet burger joints are springing up everywhere. It seems like an easy thing to get right, but at the same time, it doesn't take much for it to be done badly. We went into Hot Buns on a Sunday lunchtime. It was almost completely empty, which we put down to it being relatively new, but it also had the feeling of a nightclub the morning after the night before, rather than a cafe or restaurant. The waitress was nice enough but also seemed a bit lethargic.
The menu looked quite good. We had milkshakes, which were rather unimpressive - way too sweet. My wife had a fishburger, which wasn't actually a burger at all, just a fillet of cod in a bun, but the fish was okay. I had a Bullfighter - which supposedly had chorizo in it as well as the burger, but one very thin slice of something that looked more like salami wasn't impressive. Burger buns are often too insubstantial, but these were the opposite - very heavy and filling, too much so. The burgers also too quite a while to arrive and were not hot by the time they got to us, which is inexcusable when we were just about the only customers. However, the fries weren't bad and the barbecue dipping sauce was really good with distinct fruit and paprika flavours.
One further note: one of the burgers on the menu was called an 'Illegal Mexican' - this may be considered funny in Scandanavia, but it's actually rather offensive to anyone from America. The equivalent would be calling something on your menu a 'Uninvited Turkish Guest Worker'. See how long you could get with that in Denmark...
As we were leaving, my wife remarked that this place probably won't last very long, and I agree - unless it can be a bit less lethargic all round, Hot Buns will soon be just a memory a restaurant with a silly name.

“Average food and undisciplined staff”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2013

When we arrived at the restaurant there was no staff to be seen. Waited a couple of minutes for a waitress to appear. She showed us to our table which was not made ready for us. No cutlery, tablecloth or anything. This seemed a little odd since we had made reservation a couple of days prior to the our date. After we were seated the waitress came with the menucards. I went for the paleofriendly burger and ordered a bottle of water for my sister and me. When the bottle and the glass came i noticed the glass were dirty. As we were waiting for the food, the waitress raised her voice and cursed. This seemed very inappropriate. The food was pretty average and nothing to be exited over. As we dined more and more staff arrived. They began to hang out in the bar and they talked loudly. When it was time to pay we had to pay in the bar. A lot of very casual dressed employers were drinking drinks in the bar as we payed for our food. It felt like the employers were having a party and that their main focus wasn't to service the guest. The place has the potential to be great but the management and discipline was close to absent.
