Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel, Aarhus
Ranked #7 of 22 Hotels in Aarhus
Reviewed August 3, 2012

Visited Aarhus in Denmark driving back to Norway coming from Germany.

The looks of the hotel from the outside and the lobby is quite impressive! But then again, it's downhill from there...

We were two couples travelling toghether and had an excellent stay at the Radisson Blu hotel in Hamburg, Germany behind us. As these two hotels are suppose to be at the same standards we had high expectations but ohhh how wrong we were.

Rooms in this hotel was filthy, mold in the bathroom and the staff didn't know if they could accomodate our request for feather free pillows due to allergy.
They did find the pillows evantualy but seriously, it shouldn't be a problem in at hotel like this, especially when I wrote it as a note to the hotel prior to arriving.

Breakfast was the only thing that was OK but not more than just OK.

I know that experience is a matter of exact moment. Apparently, all about my moment staying there was just excellent. I have been in many Radinssons so far, and I rate this one as the best.

The best of all is Radisson's rich breakfast which is offered here at it's best.

I stayed there for two weeks, no complains at all.

The hotel was very clean and had a very fresh look to everything. The staff were quite helpful. The breakfast was quite nice. The hotel is right next door to the museum and a short walk from the train station and the heart of town.

The Radisson Blu Arhus fantastic to look at from the outside - moden glass front, covered outdoor "lounge" area. The good looks continue in the spacious lobby where the checkin staff were very polite and attentive. The room is what you'd expect from the Radisson group; comfortable, clean and well equipped, just what you want after at the end of a long journey.
The restaurant and bar area is comfortable, clean and modern looking and makes the guest want to eat in the hotel rather than go out to find alternatives. The only down side is that the hotel is undergoing refurbishment and when you're looking forward to a lay in being woken by the dulcet tones of power tools isn't ideal. This is only temporary though and presumably the rooms will be even better once the work completed. So......if you find yourself in Aarhus and fancy a small piece of affordable luxury then you could do much worse than the Radisson Blu. I'd definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Get a room away from the building work until refurbishments finished.

We did have a busy programme through the 4 days we stayed here, 3 evenings we ate dinner at the hotel instead of going out of the hotel with the children. The food was very good - we really recommend the blue mussels and for dessert the licorice ice cream. What we liked most was the very nice service and also how they in summertime has "tailored" the restaurant area to suit children. So we had some relaxing dinners when the children played the football table game in our sight - and everyone was happy.

The room was very quiet. The bunk bed was OK for our boys (6 and 9 y.o.) but not really suitable for bigger children: To narrow and with thin mattresses. We missed some more shelves. The bathroom had a bathtub which the boys loved. I prefer a separate shower, but happy children makes life easier.

Parking is easy in the basement with an elevator to the reception. The breakfast is absolutely great with a lot to choose from for both the healthy and the more "bacon-loving" ones. I loved the yoghurt, the home made müsli and fruit salad.

The city centre and the pedestrian streets are in short walking distance.

Let's start by the positive things (which are actually a lot). First of all the building is wonderful. The scandinavian design is obvious in all aspects. Physical light is used to the maximum extent, the architecture is interesting and the hotel has a special character on its own at least to my eyes. Breakfast for me was great. The personnel was very friendly and helpful (no need to talk about their fluent English - this is Denmark). The hotel is very well located (although we are talking about a small city). The cleaning service is fine.
A few negative things that you only notice because the price was so high (at least when I visited the place). I asked for a room change and although the response was immediate the room was not equipped for two persons (not enough towels) as we noted later in the evening. The bath tab actually fell off while I was starting to take a shower. Thank god that the water was not that hot at that time. The remote control did not work unless you took off and back on the battery. Details? yes and probably minor. but still the price was so high that you cannot neglect these.

Room Tip: I would choose a higher floor if possible, otherwise you end up in watching the ceiling of the lobby...
