Visiting this open air museum for the first time in 20-25 years was a very pleasant surprise. It has improved a lot; more old buildings than ever (75 plus and more is being added as I am writing this). All at high quality standards. You can not only see houses from the outside but also most of them from the inside. To my surprise, they had a very large number of displays, where a craftsman or the like tells you about, how a certain job was carried out 75 or a 100 years ago. Very interesting place for people at all ages! We spend 3 hours there and could easily had spend more. There is a reason why this place got 3 Michelin stars!
On a practical note: you can bring food/drinks for eating inside if you wish; they have a couple of buildings, where you can sit down and eat it. You can also leave it in the car and go out and pick it up later (remember your tickets to get back in though). If you are a larger group you should consider to book a tour guide in advance. Special thing for christmas is on every year.

I went around in this fantastic museum for five hours. Then I had to rest my feet! It almost felt like beeing back in the old days for real. Also the collections of watches, silverware, delftware, The Toy Museum and The Poster Museum where great!

Good impression about Denmark at all. Tradition mixed up with today and future (architecture). Good base to explore Jytland.

This really shows how danes used to live and give another view on Denmark.
People are nice and welcoming showing how things were produced in old days in villages. This is certaintly a place you should visit.

Definitely worth a visit; adults will enjoy the architecture and scenery, kids will enjoy the costumed actors, horse rides and old fashioned games area.Cafe is quite good, the medieval part of the exhibition is really good, not so sure about the section showing off 1950's Denmark - doesnt' seem quite long ago enough to me!
