Udsigten is Danish for 'View' (it's a 10-15 minute (uphill) walk from the centre of Svenborg) and Claus told us that they liked the house and it's location before Karina had the idea of using the lower floor to provide self-contained guest accomodation. It was a brainwave - the layout of rooms off a central corridor works really well. Don't let any thought of ' that sounds like student accomodation' put you off - the rooms are spacious and fitted out to a really high standard. My one worry was that the shared kitchen or the bathrooms might get uncomfortably busy, but they never did. Claus and Karina are really helpful, from the entry instructions which are sent by e-mail a couple of days before you arrive to suggestions of what to do on a rainy day.
We like to be able to chose to cater for ourselves when we want to - and the very reasonable room rates and well equipped accomodation here allow you to tune your holiday to suit your appetite and budget. Unfortunately, it wasn't warm enough to eat on the terrace, but there's an indoor dining area - or a table and chairs in your room. Make sure you ask for directions to the bakers - it's a bit further than the supermarket, but the bread and danish pastries are definitely worth it!
Svendborg is a good base for seeing the region, with regular buses going in all directions (and running late enough to spend the evening somewhere else) plus ferries to the islands. We were certainly glad we'd chosen this B&B.
