This hotel is the one you should choose in Odense. Convenient to the central train station (only a few hundred yards easy walk). Positioned in the city center, there are plenty of good restaurants within just 1 to 3 blocks. The atmospheric city center with half-timbered homes, St. Knut's church and the Hans Christian Anderson Home and Museum are all very close by. I have to differ from some other reviewers regarding the breakfast at First Hotel Grand. It is OUTSTANDING. So many choices, and everything was very fresh. My room was clean, quiet, had a good bed and a nice bathroom. I would suggest that the hotel invest in some portable fans for the rooms that have limited opening with the windows. But at night, the room cools just fine. Reception was friendly, prepared and efficient. I would stay here again, and would recommend it to family and friends.

First Hotel Grand is an excellent hotel, right in the center of Odense and has style with a classic look. The hotel has a beautiful lobby, reception area, like the lounge and bar. I stayed here 1 night as a stopover during my bike ride. Hotel staff was very helpful in offering an in-house shelter for my bike. My room (# 123) was beautifully decorated, was spacious and the bathroom was equipped with everything one needs. My room had ample hanging and storage space for clothes, the bed was excellent. The hotel restaurant / braserie is also popular with nonresidants, reason why it was fully booked that night. Like myself there were more guests who therefore could not dine in the hotel, which was a bit of a nuisance. However, the very friendly bartender acted promptly as a concierge and has booked for me an excellent restaurant within walking distance of the hotel (Restaurant Kvaegtorvet). I have experienced no noise from outside or other rooms. The breakfast was simple, but good. The hotel offers free WIFI, however to get started one has to register into the internet system which is quite laborious.

hotel itself is good however the room was cramped with nowhere to put a suitcase (we put ours on the desk!), the bathroom as also cramped with a shelf immediately over the sink making washing difficult. There was no facility to get a cup of tea or coffee unless you bought one in the restaurant!. A kettle in the room would be good but probably no room!. Room was also very wRm. great location though.

We stayed here for 2 days. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the Railway station. The rooms are generous in size and had comfortable beds. Breakfast was basic but satisfactory and the staff were helpful and spoke excellent english. But, as we had been travelling for 4 weeks and internationally we had large over 20kg bags each - our room was up 2 flights of stairs and the elevator was out of action - we were not told this! When we checked in we were given directions to our room 611 - that it is to go to the 2nd floor and follow the directions - the hotel is spread over 2 buildings and it is a rabbit warren of corridors - so by the time we got to our room we were not impressed! We did ask later when the lift would be fixed but there was no indication when this would happen and I got the impression the lift had been out of order for some time. Overall a good place to stay but would benefit from better customer service and information.

Room Tip: Check to see if the lift is working if you are placed in the rooms in the other wing of the hotel!

Arriving at the hotel, one of the two PCs in the reception was broke, so there was a queue for checking in (even if there were two people at the desk). The elevator in the annex building was broke. The internet connection didn't work in my room, so I had to change rooms. The coffee machine in the breakfast room didn't work. A surprisingly amount of lamps didn't work (and I checked out two rooms...). As you can't expect reception staff to be electricians, this is a management problem.
The standing order should be: If something is broken, get someone to fix it.
The staff were luckily very nice and friendly, and the room in the old building was pleasant.
The bathtub was not clean, though...

Room Tip: Annex is cheaper, but not so nice as in the main building.

A nice surprise!
The staff at this hotel understand what service is all about. They made me feel welcome and always made sure my needs were met. The room was clean and tidy. There was free internet connection in all premises. The bathroom was well catered and I found the shower cubicle a great asset. The only thing missing was a mirror opposite the shower cubicle, which could have made the bathroom look bigger.
The hotel restaurant is stunning and the food exquisite. The bed was very comfortable with a good pillow selection, I'm really glad I stayed there and will stay there again next time I go to Odense.
