The location of the Perigiali studios is basically great protected in the end of winding little alleys at Magazia. The taxi cannot reach the front of the studios but if you call to inform about your arrival they come to meet you to the taxi.

The pictures in the Perigiali internet pages mave give image of green surroundings but there are in fact other buildings almost every side of the property. In one side is a little kitchen garden with a fence.

On the other side of the studios there is ongoing and at times quite noisy construction work for a new apartment complex. The work started regularly at 7 a.m (every day). during our stay and was disturbing inside our room which shared an outer wall (where the beds are) with the construction site. According the owners this apartment complex will be ready in February 2010.

The studios itself were not large but have adequate kitchenware, a OK bathroom with a shower curtain. Many room seem to have problems with squeaking beds. You can see the nice looking wood framed beds with metal ornaments in the ends in the internet site of the establishment. These are however build with metal fittings in the corners that make awful noise when you move in the bed. I hade to fix the fittings myself by greasing them with olive oil but you could hear the same noises from neighboring rooms. The top ends of the unfortunate beds were also equipped with wheels so the beds were moving easily and colliding to each other when people are turning on their sleep.

The owners were nice and providing information about the island. At the same time there was a kind of atmosphere of surveillance which one can like or dislike. We did not like the manner with which we were told to stop putting toilet paper in the toilet. For our knowledge we didn’t cause any blockage and the request was based maybe to some weird investigation if we put toilet paper in the bathroom bin. The matter was quite O.K. as we understand there are limitations with the Greek sewage systems but the way this was presented was insulting.

The cleaning (young) lady was doing her job OK but there was not a feel of Greek extreme cleanliness as she used to mop the floors and leave them wet. Choosing your accommodation in Skyros is not so easy because of the lack of the reviews. If you want a hotel the new hotel Ammos nearby looks very nice but are maybe a little pricey.

Set in the beautiful narrow streets of Magazia, these 10 apts & studios run by Amalia & Antonis are very well equiped, very clean, and very quiet.
Not for the under 30's wanting to live it up.
It is a place to relax, read and walk. The bus service finishes at 1.30p.m., so unless you like walking uphill for 30mins to get to the town it is not for you. There are only 8 taxis on the whole island and Skyros town (The capital) becomes a ghost town at 2p.m. when everything closes for siesta for about 4 hours.
In Magazia, the tavernas are less than a handful and the food is good, but unless you eat at lunch time you will often get, 'sorry finished'.
You can have breakfast at the Perigiali, which is very good, or at one of the tavernas or beach bars, or if you wish make your own from the shop (Only two there) which have very greek opening times.
It is a good beach at Magazia with a few sun beds, which are free, but they do expect you to buy at least a nescafe frappe from their beach bar.
We had a brilliant holiday and totally chilled out whilst we were there. If you want peace and quiet, it is the place for you.
