My husband and myself have just returned (11th July) after two weeks at the Maria Yiannis. This was our third visit to Skiathos, our first to Maria Yiannis. We booked a room for three to have a bit more space,we were in one of the older blocks at the back and our room did not seem as big as some of the newer ones,it was okay though, basic but very clean and everything you needed.Towels and bedding were changed every other day.The beds were very hard and the pillows were lumpy. There are plenty of sun loungers by the pool, too many really as they were packed tightly together and most of them were not used as most people went to the beach. There is a big grassed area behind the loungers that is not used.We did notice that the owners dog used it for a toilet but they did remove it though, just be careful where you walk.It was a short walk to the beach,we went to the right near to the boat hire, two rows of loungers quieter than the middle part and a stream with fish and turtles in,everyone including us used to take bread to feed them. The nearest supermarket is just opposite the complex but if you are walking back from your evening meal near bus stop 18 there are three more, the staff in the Co-Op one are really friendly. If you turn left out of entrance and left at sign for Astoria hotel, follow the lane past the Sunrise Taverna and along the track over a field it brings you to most of the Taverna's on the road that runs parallel to the main road,it saves you risking your life on the very dangerous road that has no pavements. There are plenty of reasonably priced taverna's with good food our favourite was Kalivi opposite Villa Rosa but Sunrise,Ratatouille and Apaloosa are nice as well but it's just a personal choice. The bus service is very good numbered 1-26 (look at the map you can get in the airport) and it is very easy to find the other beaches.Taxi's do stop by the bus stops as well and cost not much more than the bus.We have been to Troulos before and these apartments are better situated than most, lots of properties are up steep tracks.Manos and his family keep the grounds immaculate and the two boys behind the bar during the day never stop working till late at night. The cleaner was okay but i think it's a bit of a cheek to put a note on the mirror asking you to tip her well as most people would do that anyway. All in all though we had a lovely holiday and would stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter.

This was my 2nd stay in Skiathos and more importantly the Maria Yannis apartments and I am certain it will not be my last. There is always a welcome smile that makes you feel at home on arrival and that continues during your stay. The rooms are adequately decorated with every appliance needed during your holiday, the outside pool and bar are modern and very clean and Manos is always on hand and runs the bar and apartments very smoothly and is a lovely guy which makes the holiday that much better as is a personal touch. I highly recommend this apartment not only for the above but also for the location. Keep up the good work

As everyone else has ssaid this is a great location.
Good points
Helpful staff, clean rooms, perfect location. It is across the riad from the beach and the lovely 'Frog Bar' (must go there!).
Bad Points
We were shown to our room without any intructions e.g there is a safe deposit box but noone told us how to access it (you have to buy the key from the barman) The airconditioning does not work unless again you buy access to this from the barman. It only costs 40 euros for both for a week but would have been helpful if we had been informed.
The shower was a comedy act. The shower itself had no holder to hang it from so you had to use one hand to hold it up and the other to wash. You will also find that the floor will be soaking wet when finished as the curtains do not do anything lol.
The facilities for self catering are quite poor. A toaster and or grill would have been handy. The bed and very hard pillows gave us very sore backs.

I agree that that the room is very basic and probably adequate for some people but not all.
We actually walked into Skiathos as it is easy to find due to following the bus stops. We stayed at bus stop 20 and we walked to the port (a must see) it ytook an hour and a quarter and was very challenging as it is up and down hills. My husband is a chef so we are quite fussy eaters. We troied the local taverners i.e salt and pepper. The Octopus waas tinned and my starter was cooked in very old oil (not pleasant) we did eat at Appaluser (Captain something lol) and that was not bad. We also ate at the famous large restaurant in town (again I cannot rememeber names but this one is advertised most places and again begins with 'A' lol. They gave you a free oozo and dessert but apart from that the food was really only average. It was a lovely place however. Now if you really appreciate your food and wants good quality go to 'Egon' in Skiathos town down the main high street. Absolutely gorgeous. They serve everything to share and the price was the same as most places.
The price of a local beer in Skiathos is 3 Euros thi sis for a large one. A small one is 2.50 so you might as well get a large one each your husband the rest lol (works out cheaper). Sunbeds on the beach cost 8 euros for two and a parasol. I think that is about all I have to say. Would recomend Skiathos to anyone although the amount of people that go every year and to the same hotel baffles me, there's a big world out there. Would probably opt for a different apartment next time though.

Stayed here in 2012, liked it so much we went back this year, May 20th for 2 weeks. Had a studio as before, fairly spacious and very clean. The apartments have a nice sized pool with plenty of sun loungers. Nice little pool bar that does small snacks and meals. Prices are very good and a good selection of drinks. Manos, who runs the apartments is a great guy who cannot be faulted, always smiling and willing to help.
Only a short walk, about 5 minutes, to the sandy Troulos beach, two sun loungers and an umbrella was 8 euros a day. Tavernas on the beach for lunch if you need it. Plenty of choice of tavernas and small supermarkets in the village. We always use the 'Ratatouille' restaurant, excellent food, very welcoming staff. Right on the bus route into Skiathos town, only 2 euros each way. If you are in the town walk around the harbour until you see a gray torpedo mounted on the harbour side. Opposite the torpedo is a set of wide steps that takes you up through a wine bar with multi coloured cushions. At the top on the left are several tavernas. The first one is the Grill House George. Ask for the country lamb, one of the best lamb dishes I have ever had anywhere in Greece.

Room Tip: All rooms look out over the pool and gardens.

We have just returned from a week here, found the apartment adequate but a wee bit dated and tired! could do with some cheering up, new bedding perhaps, more modern kitchen equipment eg crockery, cutlery etc, and a bit of colour here and there, also could do with a microwave and toaster instead of the 2 ring(never gets hot) cooker! but very clean, and ideally situated for both the beach (just a walk up the road) and the buses and taxis are just great! 2 euros each in and out of Skiathos, or even along to Koukanaries - well worth it. Skiathos is a lovely town and sitting people watching is great in any of the street tavernas, eating is very good and reasonably priced, no complaints at all, just personal comments, NOT criticism by any means, would recommend and will hopefully go back to Skiathos next year! perhaps to a Hotel rather than self catering"!

We love Skiathos and Troulos beach in particular. Skiathos town is an ideal size with a plethora of good quality restaurants. The apartment was larger than we expected, basic, but functional. Next time we will take a screwdriver to do a few minor repairs that were needed such as loose electric plugs. Other reviews have mentioned how friendly the staff were. In two weeks never ever met them. Two young boys running the bar during the day seemed disinterested and spoke poor English. Location great, bus service to the town and main beaches a real winner. Plenty of good local restaurants near the apartments. Do ask as some are not easy to find such as the Ratatouille. Well worth a visit.

Room Tip: The best rooms are away from the bar on the far side of the complex as the evenings can be a little...

The rooms are basic but clean , bedding and towels are replaced often and rooms are cleaned every day but Sunday. The beach is just across the road down a short lane and we used the lovely comfortable sunbeds belonging to Troulos Hotel where the food is good too. Good bus service every 15 mins right outside the apartments. We went into Skiathos town most evenings as we found the local area was a bit run down..maybe as it was the end of the season.
