La Piscine Art Hotel
Ranked #2 of 84 Hotels in Skiathos
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed September 18, 2010

Had the most amazing holiday at La Piscine Art Hotel. In all the years we have been visiting Skiathos (over 20 now), we have never stayed in a nicer place! The staff are the friendliest most conscientious and professional people you could wish to meet and nothing is ever too much trouble. As has been said in earlier reviews, Olga and Alex are a credit to this hotel and go out of their way to be helpful. The food in the restaurant is absolutely fabulous, the rooms spotlessly clean and the service all round is first-class.
If there was one thing that I felt could be improved upon it was the beds. The mattresses were very firm (not to everyone's liking), but that was my only criticism.
We will certainly be booking again!

We have just arrived back from Skiathos and stayed at the La Piscine Art Hotel. Before we went I read all the reviews. I noted down all the restaurants that we would like to eat at as we had only booked bed and breakfast. The four times out of seven we ate out, but I must say we found the hotel food to be the best. Thomas and Michael (twins) it is there mum that is the chef and she makes the best meat balls and spaghetti that I have ever tasted even my husband enjoyed it, which is a surprise! We paid every night about €60 for dinner for 2 and a bottle of wine out in Skiathos town. The next time we will book half board as it is well worth the extra just to get a beautiful food and poolside table with candles a lovely atmosphere.

As I said I read the reviews on the hotel so I must say I came prepared. I took a small fan for the room just in case the air con was not powerful enough and it was the best move that I made. As my husband said “it was like the air was getting blown through a small key hole” maybe there was something wrong with ours. In the end it did not matter. I also took a slip mat with me due to reading all about the shower reviews and really did not need one as they already had a mat down on the floor. The only thing about the shower was you had to be like twiggy to get in and out of ours as it was a bit tight and as soon as you turned around you would bang your elbow on the shower door.

The girls at the reception were really great –helpful –kind Olga and Alex even though I kept calling Alex (Andrea). They will book any of the restaurants for you and get you the best tables and tell you the best times to go to watch the sunset going down. They are also great on all the beaches as well . I felt they were just as good as any tour guides.

There was one more thing that was a really helpful. They have a small library of books, which is a god send if you have not taken one with you. You can just take what you like and return when you have finished.

Overall it was a great week and we really enjoyed ourselves, except for a few days when the rain came pouring down, but having the comfy sofas and a book and glass of wine what more can you ask for.

This is our third visit to La Piscine and although we normally like to try somewhere different, we booked again and had a fantastic time. Most of the people we have met at the hotel return again and again too.

We booked through Thompson and have to say our rep Tom was brilliant. We were on a bed & breakfast basis, although we ate in the hotel most days as the food was so nice, plus the restaurant at the side of the pool is so pleasant. We may have been better booking half board. Some people at the hotel thought the breakfast was not up to the standards of a UK 4 star hotel - we thought it was fine and liked the eggs (they would cook fresh if you asked) bacon and sausage, which was not like the usual continental meats. There was also a selection of cereals, yoghurts, crossiants etc, but not much fresh fruit.
There is a complimentary barbeque every week, the food is fantastic and a great chance to get together with everyone staying in the hotel, we have made some really great people there.
The prices in the bar are typical of a 4 star hotel, some thought it was expensive, but we found it better value than a 4 star hotel in the UK , plus there was such a good atmosphere in there in the evening, most people stopped for drinks before going out and then for a nightcap or 2 at the end of the night.

The staff at the hotel are brilliant, the girls on reception Olga & Alex were so helpful and friendly as were all the bar staff, especially the twins Thomas & Michael, not forgetting Dean on the bar and the twins Mum who does a fantastic job in the kitchen. We rarely heard the room maids and our room was always spotless and cleaned by the afternoon. All the staff and owners work long hours in all that heat but they are still smiling and friendly at the end of the day.

We found that all areas including the bedrooms in La Piscine are kept spotlessly clean and there is a lovely ambiance to the place, really comfortable and relaxing. We encountered a little flood one night in the bathroom and the maintenance man was there within 5 minutes and sorted the problem straight away. The Kouloulakis family the owners, take great pride in their hotel and work really hard with their staff to ensure everyone has the best stay possible. They even grow their own vegatables up in the hills and the eggs for breakast are fresh from their own chickens.

We have heard that the hotel has been awarded a Gold by Thompsons holidays this year, unfortunately this had also hiked the price for next year by quite a lot. However, we still think La Piscine Hotel takes some beating and Skiathos is the best Island in the mediteranean in our view.

just returned from 10 days at this lovely Hotel, like reading most of the reviews this Hotel is perfect. nothing is too much trouble. Olga you are a star, a credit to this hotel. Alex on reception also, and the twins. The rooms were spotless but have to say the only downside being the flaming shower head water everywhere. I would recommend this hotel to anyone without any hesitation what so ever.
Perfect holiday from start to finish.

Best described as truly perfect! We loved everything about our stay, the public areas in the hotel are immaculate, the rooms are bright, airy, clean and very comfortable, we upgraded to a superior room however the standard rooms are of high standard too. The Koukoulakis family and the staff can only be described as exceptional, it is obvious the management value their team as it is reflected in their attitude and desire to make the stay of their guests a memorable one, nothing is too much trouble. The highlight of our stay was eating in the Hotel Restaurant, despite there being lots of nice places to eat in Skiathos, we could not resist eating in the hotel every night of our stay! The quality and choice of food is second to none and not expensive, the service once again is exceptional, Mike the top man in the restaurant works so hard and is so passionate about the menu he has created is assisted by Thomas and Michael, identical twins whose mum is the chef. If you eat just one night in the hotel you must try the sea bass, see Mike the day before as he buys it fresh himself. We have booked again for next year and have opted for half board this time. The location is ideal, just a 10 minute transfer and a 5 minute walk to the town and harbour. Thanks to all concerned for a truly enjoyable and relaxing stay.

Just back from La Piscine, overall we had a good time, we had read trip adviser before we went so new a bit, Olga and Alex are as others say, incredibly nice and friendly and all the staff are a credit to the hotel, Mike the bar manager and his star identical twins Thomas and Michael, and Dean, they are all very conscientious and want to please.
As said the air con is on request but no problem, As mentioned by another, the bathroom shower is not great ,just functional, it floods the floor and was potentialy dangerous getting out on to a highly polished marble type floor tile,i slipped once, they need to put down a non slip mat or wooden thingamejig, the shower screen is not fitted properly and has a 2 inch gap to the bath so the water goes every where. we overcame that by pulling in the glass screen.
Our basin mixer was very loose and was difiicult to adjust as it was very stiff.
Food wise we ate out, The Scuna Restaurant in the harbour is a must and you wont fault it, the breakfast at the hotel is very limited but adequate. The worst thing though is without doubt the bed, it has to be the hardest mattress i have ever slept on, totally unaceptable from a supposed 4* hotel.
We did not get one decent nights sleep and by the end of our week we both felt in need of a good massage, the pillows were just thin foam . I was very temped to sleep on the sun lounger bed as that was heaven by comparison. So despite the wonderfull staff,
the nice pool, and good service i would only rate La piscine as a 3*, other guests i spoke to held the same view.
We paid £1700 for one week, with a supposed superiour room, so until they realise that the bed is important to sleep on then its fair to comment on it.

Booked this hotel as part of a Thomson package via the website. Skiathos Town is about a 5 minute transfer from the airport, so shortly after landing we were sipping our complimentary G&T's by the fabulous hotel pool. Our room was of a good standard, with a small private balcony that was useful for drying bikinis! Not much of an outlook over the main road, but this didn't bother us and we kept the doors closed at night to keep out the mosquitoes & make the most of the air con.

As per other reviews, the air con is upon request as part of a 'green' initiative, so you do have to remember to ask for it, but it's no problem day or night. There's also no denying that the showers do flood the bathroom floor. However, you soon learn the best shower head angle and it does dry out relatively quickly. These are the only faults I can find and they are so minor, that they make no impact upon my 5* rating.

Now for the best bits... the hotel restaurant is fantastic with food equal to that of some of London's most acclaimed. Mike, the restaurant manager, is superb and takes immense pride in his work. Ask for him to order in some seabass for that night - you won't be disappointed.

Alex and Olga on Reception are so helpful. Alex is happy to book you tables at suggested restaurants and you find you get the best table. Nothing is too much trouble.
Vasilis, Dean and Thomas made us return to the hotel bar each evening for wonderful hospitality and cocktails.

We had no problem whatsoever in getting a sunbed by the pool (and we were far from early birds!). The pool itself is beautiful and the loungers are quality. The hotel is a 10 minute walk to town (15 in heels!) and is a good way to walk off all the irresistible crepes and ice-creams on offer!

I've been back 2 days now and I can't wait to go back to Skiathos - it's been one of my favourite destinations and that is, in no small part, down to the wonderful La Piscine Art.
