“Excellent service from staff made stay special”
Reviewed August 17, 2009

The staff at this hotel are what make it special. The bar staff are all very friendly and helpful but the receptionists really go the extra mile - always willing to recommend a local restaurant and make reservations for you. This is well worth doing, both to ensure you get a table and because in every case the restaurants then insisted on providing a complimentary desert.

The hotel is about 10 minutes' stroll from the sea front down narrow roads but this means that it stays quiet in the evenings, which is what we wanted. The pool area is lovely, lots of comfy padded loungers and umbrellas and the pool itself is great for proper swimming (i.e. it's a sensible shape and depth rather than just being pretty to look at!) Bar staff are friendly and helpful and happily bring you drinks to your lounger. there are large sofas in shaded areas out of the sun but still outside for when the heat is too much and the hotel has a large selection of english books to borrow whilst you are there. WiFi access around the reception area is free and there is a computer terminal you can pay to use.

Other guests were mainly "older" couples (we're in our 30s and felt pretty young) and a few families with small children - there were no kids clubs so most people with children must stay elsewhere - this meant the pool stayed quiet and you didn't get woken up late with people getting back from the clubs!

There are some niggles with the hotel. The breakfast was extremely basic (eggs, bacon, sausage, bread, cheap cereal) and would have been much improved with some fruit or yoghurt. We also didn't particularly like the restaurant food when we tried it, although lots of other guests did seem to enjoy it so that's just personal preference.

The air conditioning is under the control of reception and you have to ask every time you want it switched on, which is slightly annoying. It is worth specifying if you'd like it to be on all night - if you don't it turns itself off around 2am with a loud beep which meant I woke up in the night and then had a very stuffy room in the morning. If you ask for it to be switched on all night there is no problem with this, but they won't volunteer it.

The only other slight niggle is that the music around the pool can be quite loud during the day and there isn't really anywhere else to sit - again, this is personal preference and the application of my own iPod solved the problem!

All in all, the niggles are slight and didn't detract from a very nice hotel

We have recently returned from a wonderful two holiday in Skiathos staying at La Piscine Art. This is a beautiful hotel situated on the outskirts of Skiathos Town. The biggest plus for this hotel are its staff. They will do anything for you should you require it, are very friendly and professional but not intrusive. It is classed as a 4* but i would rate this as a 3*+. My reasons for this are, firstly, the air conditioning. I have never stayed in a hotel of 4* quality and had to ask for the air conditioning to be turned on and controlled by reception. It was frustrating after a hot day at the beach (35 degs) to come back to a stiffling hotel room. It was also as bad in the morining as the A/C was turned off at about 4am every morning, unless you rang to reception to have it re-enabled. Secondly, the breakfast, it was also poor comparing to other hotels. Having to collect your cutlery, tea/coffe and breakfast and finding a table was unacceptable. The staff are all standing around waiting to give you a top up of coffee but they couldn't lay the tables ( no blame to the staff, this is the hotel management). Also, there weren't any jugs to get milk for the drinks, we all had to use a small glass tumbler, which spilt everywhere !! my final gripe was the fruit at breakfast. For an island with fruit trees everywhere, why did we have tinned fruit cocktail each morning, the only fresh fruit being water melon? All this said, the hotel was probably one of the best on the Island, perhaps it was just the greek way.

What can I say, I have just returned from a weeks holiday at the PIscine Art Hotel in Skiathos. The hotel is absolutely lovely and charming. I will just list a few of the things the things I liked.
Rooms cleaned and towels changed every day.
Fantastic Food
Beautiful decor
Great pool and pool bar
Great location for Skiathos Town
But the best of all are the people, the staff and owners of this hotel are the best in the business, from the moment you arrive and get your welcome drink they make you feel as if you are the most important people in the world, they are friendly, caring and cannot do enough for you.

It speaks for its self that the majority of people we spoke to were on their second or third visit to the hotel, one couple were on the 9th!!

I cannot recommend this hotel enough and will definatly be returning as soon as possible.

This is our 2nd stay at La Piscine. We don’t usually return to the same resort/hotel, but we had such a fantastic time there in August 2007, we said we would return like so many of the guests. In fact we enjoyed it so much again this time that we’ve just booked for 2010.

On arrival it was as if we had only been away a few weeks, we had a lovely welcome from Olga and Irini at the front desk. Then when we went into the pool area for our welcome drink. Andreas came over to greet us and he even remembered our names from our previous visit. We then had a warm welcome from Eleni and Vasilis (the owners of the hotel).

Over 2 weeks we had a fantastic time and couldn’t fault anything. Eleni and Vasilis were around most of the day and night and they promote a really friendly atmosphere at the hotel, nothing is too much trouble for anyone. Andreas is an absolute star, he works so hard and always with a smile on his face. The waiters in the bar area Denis, Elios & Dean were new to us as the staff have changed from last time, but they were brilliant. Dean makes the best Mojito and Flying cocktails. We found the bar prices were quite reasonable for a 4 star hotel so we often had a few drinks there before and after a night out.

Our room was facing the back this time ‘209’ and we had our own balcony facing a little garden which was fine. It was always kept very clean by the maids and there were lots of finishing touches as mentioned in previous posts. The beds were very comfortable and there was plenty of storage space. Airconditioning was switched on by request.

We were on a B&B basis but often ate lunch in the hotel as it was so nice to just chill by the pool. We are party animals ourselves so often missed breakfast, but when we did venture down before 10.30am we found it was great, there was a good selection of food and they even had British sausages. We also stayed for the barbeque and Greek nights; there was a small charge of 10 euros for the BBQ and Greek evening which was well worth the price. The chef Steven was a barbeque master and the meat he cooked was beautiful. The hotel also hosted a few complimentary BBQ’s as well and there were either live bands or Greek singers which we really enjoyed for a change from western music.

The pool area at La Piscine has a good sized pool, with really comfortable sunbeds and chairs. The hotel provide towels on the beds and they are changed throughout the day as people move away. There is a shower to the side of the bar, rather than on the poolside, but this was not really a problem. If you want to cool off there are conservatory areas with big comfy sofas dotted around the pool and bar area. The flowers and artwork dotted around the hotel add to the ambiance of the place. The hotel is geared more for adults really (not a problem for us) as there are no activities or swimming areas for children.
We didn’t encounter any problems getting a bed even arriving down as late as 11am. With regards to the sunbed incident in the previous article. I saw what happened on the poolside that afternoon, a couple had actually left their beds to watch TV in the bar and had been away for a good few hours, the couple that took the beds thought that the people had gone - that was it, just a misunderstanding - there was no big scene.

Skiathos town itself is very chic, the old town area is great to explore. In the day you can take a ferry to the other islands or boat taxis to beaches. We love the island of Tsougria, the boat taxi leaves from the harbour at 10 & 11am and picks you up at 4, 5 or 6pm cost is 10 euros per person return. Beware though and make sure you take water and refreshments as Tsougria has only one little Taverna on the beach. The day we went it was closed due to some problem with the greek authorities and most of the people were rationing water by the end of the day.
It's also very easy to get the bus around the different resorts and beaches on the island. Although, we were too busy relaxing at La Piscine to go anywhere this time.

There is a massive choice of restaurants and snack places in town. There no tacky bars or people pestering you to buy their goods, which is one of my pet hates on holiday. The restaurant prices vary depending on what you want, fish can be quite expensive, but we found it very reasonable for the quality of food and wine we had.

Our favourite restaurant was LYCHNARIA, this was recommended by the owner of La Piscine - Dimitri and his wife Anna made us feel so welcome and the food was amazing. We also liked AMFILIKI for fresh fish (ask La Piscine to book a table for you to get a good spot), LO & LA and BONAPARTE. There is a little old windmill restaurant called Mylio at the end of the runway if you want to watch the planes coming in; they do great pork chops and chicken.

All in all we had a fantastic holiday and can’t wait to go back next year !!

We thought we should let others know our feelings about this beautiful hotel, as we have used it twice now in successive years, July 2008 and June 2009. From the moment you arrive you are made to feel extremely welcome and their aim is to help you relax into your stay as quickly as possible, by escourting you to their poolside settees, to enjoy a welcome drink in the shade. When YOU are ready, a porter will take you and your luggage to your allocated room. Rooms both years have been of an excellent standard. The pool is large and has plenty of comfortable sun loungers, complete with towel. Breakfast has improved since our first year and we had no complaints about it at all. You soon get to know the staff by their names and feel like they genuinely take an interest in you and help with any questions you have about the hotel or the island. They give their opinion on places to visit and also recommend local restaurants. We hope this hotel continues to be a hidden gem, so that we can ensure we can always get a room! Will definately return, and our thanks to all the staff who help make our holidays at La Piscine Art a pleasure. We have great memories.

Stayed in this hotel for two weeks in May/June 2009 and enjoyed every minute.
From the moment you arrive the staff are on hand to help you relax and enjoy your stay. You are directed straight to the pool bar area to relax and enjoy a free 'welcome drink' which was great after the three and a quarter hour flight.
The layout of the pool area is very good in that you can sit in the sun by the pool or find a comfy settee in the many shaded areas to read a book from the large selection on offer in the lending library in reception. If you are in need of a cold drink but cna't be bothered to move from your sunbed you will find Andreas and Denis on hand to bring you whatever you want from the bar.
The pool was a little cold in the first few days that we stayed but did warm up with the weather by the fourth day and was just right to cool you down after a couple of hours sat in the sun. The sunbeds are very comfy and the hotel lays out a towel on each one so you don't need to use your own if you don't want to. A couple of reviews have said that the sunbeds are too close together but I didn't find them to be any different to most other hotels I have stayed in.
The room that we had (105) was clean and large with a balcony overlooking the pool area there was a flat screen tv and cd player and complimentary bath robes and slippers for use during your stay. The bathroom had a bath with shower and was large and clean. You need to request the air conditioning to be switched on at reception as and when you need it which is free of charge. Some people had said this was problematic as it would be switched off after a couple of hours. They do switch it off but will leave it on if specifically requested.
Breakfast was fine with a choice of cereals, fruit, cakes, pastries, breads, cheese, cooked meats and hot food including sausage, bacon, eggs (fried and scrambled) and beans with tea, coffee and juices to drink. It was nice to sit by the pool for breakfast and it was served from 7.30 to 10.30 so no rush!
The hotel is a 5 minute walk away from the main street in the town and 10 minutes from the harbour . Skiathos town has a good range of bars and restraunts with loads to offer. We ate out at a different place every night and never had a bad meal.
All in all the hotel was great and the staff very friendly and couldn't do enough for you, would definately stay there again on my next visit to the island.

We've just returned from a weeks holiday to Skiathos, where we stayed at La Piscine Art. This is our second stay at this hotel, our first, over 5 years ago was excellent and this time was even better. The hotel is small, family run with extremely helpful and friendly staff. Its location is ideal for exploring Skiathos town, the rooms are large and overall the hotel is very well maintained. The pool area is lovely with large comfortable sun loungers and towels are placed on the beds for guests to use. The breakfast was not brillant, however the other meals with ate in the hotel were very good. We will stay at this hotel again in the future.
