We stayed here for 2 weeks in September. The hotel is one step away from a beautiful sandy beach and the Aegean Sea. Rooms are basic but very clean and in good decorative condition. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. Breakfast is as other reviewers said basic but plentiful and perfectly adequate. We ate outdoors each morning looking straight out onto the beach and the sea - fantastic! We also ate in the hotel a few evenings and found the food very good. There are two tavernas next to the hotel, literally on the beach and they were good, traditional Greek fare. Our only criticism was the beds are very hard but someone gave us a tip - put a duvet on top the mattress. It is a level, one minute walk to the small supermarket and bus stop. It is very easy to use the buses and Skiathos is only about 10 mins and Koukanaros also about 10. The hotel is only three stories high - aim for a sea view if you can but the garden view and side views were fine. We checked location of other hotels on the Island and we think this has to be the best. We loved Skiathos and found plenty to do for two weeks, even without a car. Do the boat trip to Skopolos and the trip around Skiathos - Lararia is superb!

It was our second visit to Skiathos – in 2002 we stayed at the Kanapitsa Plaza Hotel. When I booked back then I was torn between the Plaza and the Troulos Bay hotels; I chose the Plaza simply because it had the water taxi to Skiathos Town. However, we didn’t enjoy our stay there and I always regretted not going to the Troulos Bay Hotel so decided we’d go this year.

Our flight from Manchester was delayed by three hours due to a power cut so we had to check in manually and weren’t allocated seat numbers. Thankfully we were fairly near the front of the queue at the gate and managed to get seats together. The pilot, Buster Crabb, welcomed us on board before informing us that, unfortunately, we were having to leave 15 bags behind which would follow on the flight the next day. That gave us all something to think about on the three and a half hour flight!! Luckily our bags weren’t amongst the missing 15 – however, next time I’ll pack swimwear etc in the hand luggage just in case.

Skiathos Airport is one of the most pleasant of the Greek airports – no queue at passport control, very friendly staff and a cool, calm atmosphere. Well, I suppose it appeared that way to us because we had our luggage; not sure what those who didn’t have their luggage thought of it!

It took half an hour on the coach to get to Troulos Bay Hotel. The check-in at the hotel was one of the best I’ve experienced – a really charming guy on reception – no forms to fill in; I just handed over my passport and he showed me to our room – couldn’t have been better after the horrendous start to the day.

The room was very clean and bright and had a fridge – empty thankfully as I hate mini-bars where you can’t store your water etc. There is air conditioning in the room but if you need it you have to go to reception to collect the remote control and there is a charge of €4.50 per day.

Breakfast is very basic but perfectly adequate: peaches, yoghurt and honey / cornflakes and muesli / usually a choice of boiled eggs, bacon, sausages, beans / bread and toast / strawberry and peach jam (I wish they used different containers for these as they were in very large pots and I did wonder whether they just kept topping them up, in which case I’m not sure what the jam at the bottom of the pot would be like! – also the pot lids were very sticky to handle) / slices of cold meat and cheese / orange squash (would much have preferred orange juice – like everyone else I expect!) / tea and coffee (excellent coffee, not bitter like some hotels).

The restaurant is open to the gardens and provides a great setting to relax and enjoy your meals. There are several cats around the hotel but they aren’t pushy; they’re grateful if you give them titbits but don’t appear to want to be stroked and fussed over – not by me anyway!

We booked our holiday through First Choice as Thomson didn’t offer half board at this hotel; as it turned out half board with First Choice was cheaper than bed & breakfast with Thomson! The half board evening meal consisted of a choice of 3/4 starters, 2/3 salads (one between two), 3/4 main dishes and 1/2 sweets. Some of the dishes were repeated during the week but I didn’t have a problem with that. The service in the restaurant is first class – really attentive waiters – I can’t praise them enough – so friendly and efficient.

Alongside the hotel on the beach, are 2 tavernas with four lots of seating; 1 and 3 are Blue Beach and 2 and 4 are something else. We visited the first Blue Beach Taverna twice during our week and the food and service were very good. There is a small supermarket in Troulos which stocks very yummy baklava – definitely worth trying if you’re prepared to risk transferring a slice from the syrupy dish into the bags provided!

We were warned about the mosquitoes on the island so used a plug in the room and spray or wipes in the evening. Neither of us had a single bite but that might just have been because we didn’t stay out late at night. It’s not particularly wooded around the hotel - I think that helps keep the mozzies away.

Across the sea from the hotel is the large island of Evia. Even though you can’t actually see the sun set from the hotel, you can watch the effect it has on the mountains, turning them pink and misty - beautiful!

The beach is a very short walk from the hotel and there is no need to wear sandals to get there as you can walk across the grass. However, the sand was too hot to walk on at times so you might need sandals then! They do charge for the sunbeds - €3 per sunbed – you need to buy a ticket from the hotel reception which you then hand to the guy who comes round to collect them, usually at about 11.30 am each day.

I was surprised at how many fish there were at Troulos – it is definitely worth taking your snorkelling equipment. I did see a few sea urchins on the rocks but only about 6!! The sea was so clear you can see the fish without a snorkel and you are able to watch them without them swimming off in fright – some locals line-fish from the beach and I think the fish associate people with food!

There are watersports on the beach – but they are towards the other end of the beach from the hotel so are not a problem. There seemed to be a lot of English people in the resort which was good – lots of friendly faces. I think the guests in the hotel when we were there were almost all British!

A trip to Skiathos Town is a must - it’s a beautiful place. It costs €1.50 per person on the local bus (a taxi will cost about €10). We went to catch the 9.00 am bus which came at 9.15 am. I spoke to another tourist later that day and they’d gone to get the 9.30 am bus which arrived at 10.00 am – I don’t think the Greeks take their bus timetable too seriously!

Getting back to the hotel was a bit of a farce. We went to catch the bus but when it turned up there were far too many people wanting to get on so no room for us. We then walked to the taxi rank up the road to await a taxi but as it was airport day taxis were few and far between. After waiting a while we went back to get the bus – another one turned up but still we couldn’t fit on. We were really fed up by then! We went back to the taxi rank again but just as we sat down we spotted another bus so we ran back and thankfully we got on that one! The buses were jam-packed with people squashed together in the aisle and by the doors – it appears that as long as the doors can close behind you, you are allowed on!!

Skiathos Town has lots of tavernas but I’d like to recommend the Plakes Taverna. To find it, you leave the old harbour and go up the hill past the fish tavernas. Keep to the coast and you come to Plakes in about 5 minutes. It is a small taverna but it is well worth visiting. It is so peaceful and relaxing there (away from the hustle and bustle of the waterfront tavernas) and has fantastic views; the food’s really good too – and the service excellent.

To sum up, I would definitely recommend the Troulos Bay Hotel – the hotel is spotless, the staff very friendly and efficient – if we return to Skiathos, we will certainly return to Troulos Bay Hotel.

Of coursethe moment you arrive the first thing you do is open the balcony doors to take in the view and the Troulos Bay Hotel must be one of the best views we've ever enjoyed, uninterrupted, palm trees beach & sea with a stragically placed island to complement the view.oh & the sun was shinning. You need a few minutes to drink that in, and realise you're not dreaming before the outdoor the bar beckons & your first Mythos is downed, whilst still entranced by the view. If quiet is what you want then quiet you get, and a lengthy bech to enjoy it on. Rooms small & clean, but why are you inside, when you should be living on the balcony? Rooms cleaned every day, linen changed alternate days. friendly helpful staff. Breakfast more than ample, and tastes even better when sitting outside i the early morning sun, but be prepared to mobbed by hungry sparrows, and the inevitable feral moggy. we dined in the restaurent in the evening a couple of times, the food was tasty & provided by efficient staff, one looks strangley like Mr Bean! Look out for the man who tends to the gardens we called him the "constant gardener" as that is what did fron 7am to late evening, and is particulary efficient at collecting the sunbed tickets which he diligently crosses off his board. Soen taverans locally worth visiting Ambrosia & nectar & paradiso in Troulos don't go to green meadow as its a rip off. Go to Skiathos town regularly as ther's a huge choice of excellent restaurents. If you're feeling particulary generous The Windmill restaurent o the Hill serves deliscious food but at a price, and near the ld harbour up the steps the La Bistro agai great views and probley the best meal we had and also Georges i the same area. Take the boat trips around the isaland and beachges but be prepared to get wet and visit Skopelos & Alanossis. We stayed 2 weeksd did'nt need a car use the frequent bus service and walked i the hills. Walk on the kanapitsa peninsula nd love the beach of the same name

Have just registered with Trip Advisor (hence the lateness of this review) but this place is perfect for a chilling out week. We stayed here as a family for about 5 years in a row as kids and i returned with my girlfriend a couple of years ago and nothing had changed except for positive aspects. The hotel is directly on the beach and the beach/sea are fantastic. Skiathos Town is a hive of activity in the evening and so families can also enjoy th Troulos Bay Hotel for quiet days soaking up the sun and swimming in the sea and then a lively nightlife and good restaurants in the evening. Make sure to visit the Windmill restaurant and The Jailhouse but above all make sure you stay in the Troulos Bay Hotel.

Myself and my partner travelled to Skiathos the 2nd week in August for 1 week. We stayed at the Hotel Troulos Bay. The hotel is perfectly positioned right on the beach. The rooms were clean and very comfortable with tv, radio and a fridge all supplied and working!! The staff were all very friendly and accomodating. The beach (to which the restuaurant leads on to) is one of the best on the island (We hired a motorbike and covered at least 15 different beaches during the week). We only eat in the Hotel on 1 occasion other than breakfast and the food was great. We like to explore though hence the other 6 nights we dined elsewhere (Efinity Blue is a must, but all the places we eat served really good quality food). The island is small but is packed with things to see. The beaches at this place are something else. Hopefully we will be visiting again soon. VERY VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

stayed at the hotel during the last week of June. The hotel staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. the rooms were basic but clean. The hotel could not be situated in a better location. The beach was fantastic. Troulos Bay is very quiet and ideal if you want a holiday were you need to get away from it all. A bus ride into Skiathos town is an experience but the town itself is wonderful. The shops, restaurants and bars are fantastic. It was my first time in Greece and it won't be my last. i wouldn't recommend the hotel for young families as apart from sitting on the beach there is nothing else to do. If the weather is bad (we had a thunder storm that lasted a full day) then there is nothing else in the way of entertainment. i was sorry i only booked for a week but i will certainly be going back there.
