Probably the best located hotel in Skiathos Town, 10 mins transfer from airport & 2 mins from harbour, tavernas, shops etc. Spotlessly clean, reasonable bar prices & menu. 24hr reception (eyup Kiki) we've stayed in budget accommodation here (Blue Dolphin studios) and upmarket (La Piscine art) all were fine, but this is a great halfway house. If I had one criticism, it would be that breakfast needs some attention to detail, but it is served on the roof , which has fantastic views over the town & harbour and a troop of tame sparrows. Enjoyed our stay very much & we'll be back.

Room Tip: Top floor is good

I have been visiting Skiathos for over 14 years, we have stayed in some beautiful apartments and hotels and some equally poor quality apartments. I was expecting a lot more from this hotel when we booked it. We stayed from 05/07/13 - 12/07/13, when we arrived I asked did we have a sea view room only to be told that we would have to pay 20 euros per night per room and this would equal 280 euros we couldn't constitute paying more when we had paid nearly £1000 for the week. Upon arriving in the room I was greeted by flies and a cockroach, then when hanging my clothes up, the sliding wardrobe door got stuck and wouldn't move. Moving onto the bathroom there was tiles hanging off the wall along with chipped tiles. The bath and sink didn't look like they had been cleaned in years and were full of rust not very appealing to shower in. In our other room the toilet wouldn't flush and the patio door wouldn't lock and the only plug socket in the room was hanging off the wall!!!!!! Safety hazard!!!!! When we went down to reception to complain we were showed 2 more rooms and when the lady checked if the toilet would flush it wouldn't so immediately showed us 2 more rooms on the floor above. These rooms were much better with a brand new bathroom and wardrobes and a lot cleaner. The towels were replaced daily and the bedroom cleaned and tided everyday.

The staff were very helpful and friendly! We had excellent service from Alex who served us drinks while we relaxed by the pool. The hotel is only a short walk into the town, and has beautiful views from the roof top terrace. The breakfast is very basic and not to everybody's taste.

Room Tip: Don't accept poor quality rooms.

We have been going to Skiathos for 15 years and this is the best hotel and location we have ever stayed at. We were there this year from 5/6/13 - 19/6/13 for two weeks. Hotel clean, staff very friendly, lovely view every morning from the terrace whilst eating your breakfast. New bathrooms refurbished this year. We will definitely stay here again in the future.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have the best view but they were 20 euros extra per day. Rooms on the right han...

We were to the alkyon hotel from 06/30/2013 to 07/07/2013 and we really enjoyed it. the location is great, just a short walk from the port, town center and the nightlife.
around the corner there is the bus stop to the beaches. the staff is very kind and friendly. Breakfast and dinner are served on a terrace with a beautiful view of the port and skiathos town. Food is good.

We stayed at the Alkyon for 2 weeks from mid June. The location was fantastic, the public rooms, bar and pool area were fine. The rooms were ok but the bathrooms were abysmal. Our room had very old style sliding wardrobes that kept sticking and the shelf under the fridge (chipboard) was crumbling. The bathroom was the worst I've seen in Greece - the bath was grey(it badly needed to be re-enamelled) there was a very rusty hole where taps/overflow should have been, plus a broken light fitting. The loo flushed ok but then kept running for an hour! The mirror was losing its silver backing , and the bathroom was finished with dark brown tiles, but it did have a bidet!! One night my husband was standing with the door open while I closed the patio door and of course the room door slammed, the very heavy doorknob shot off and just missed his toes. It had only been held on by one screw!! We did report this to reception but nothing was ever done about it. On the upside, the a/c worked well, the maids were good and we had clean towels every day and sheets every 3rd day. The breakfasts were ok but could have done with a little more variation - on the plus side the scenery from the balcony and terrace was brilliant. The bus station around the corner was very handy as was the large supermarket towards bus stop 1. I know that they have started upgrading some of the bathrooms but from speaking to other guests not too many have been completed. Would I go again? No, in truth this was quite an expensive holiday and we felt a bit ripped off.

Room Tip: The ground floor rooms tend to be very gloomy.

My Wife and I returned home on Friday from our 3rd visit to the wonderful island of Skiathos and our 3rd visit to the Alkyon. I must say this hotel gets better and better every year we go there. As advised last year I e-mailed Kiki part way through the year when we had a confirmed booking, and true to her word our room, 407 was ready and waiting for us with the added benefit of a completely refitted bathroom. Everyone at this hotel is more than helpful from Georgina on reception to the bar staff and also the guys upstairs in the restaurant. An addition this year was Anthi who does among other things Public Relations, a mine of information very friendly and extremely helpful.
This hotel and I think I have said this before has got to be the best positioned hotel on the Island, all of the public areas are spotless, the rooms are cleaned every day, with fresh towels etc etc. We had a side sea view which was quite nice, the view from the breakfast area is to die for and you could if you wanted just spend all day up there. Pool is not enormous but more than adequate for the number of people that use it and where the hotel is positioned in Skiathos town you are only 2 minutes walk to all of the bars and Tavernas you would want. If you need to go further there is a good bus service just around the corner 2 Euros will take you anywhere you want to go and it runs till late at night also. Go to Avis for Car Hire it is not expensive and it is reliable. If you have done this for a few years like we have, you will find they keep your details making a re-book seamless or you can e-mail in advance, nothing is too much trouble.
Special mention to Fresh bar, Dimetri and Mitza will cook the best meal you will have on the Island so will the Fish Taverna next door, go see George and Yiannis there for Fish, Seafood and Ouzo, just enjoy chatting to the locals, speak some Greek with them, learn a word a day. They all speak English anyway but have some fun you would be surprised.
Going back next year to do, this time, some of the things we had planned to do this year but didn't, but who cares just enjoy.
Wonderful family run hotel with extremely friendly and helpful people nothing is too much trouble for them. Love the place.

Room Tip: E-Mail or telephone in advance. Side sea rooms are nice don't bother too much about the rooms at...

Well we have all read the reviews of the Alkyon and it will always be scored based on which room you get. We were fortunate to get a high numbered room with a new bathroom but we also wandered down into the bowels and savoured the unpleasant smells. Having said that everything was clean, the meals adequate on a breakfast area with spectacular views and the staff were excellent with the wonderful Althi leading the plaudits and being a great ambassador for the hotel. I forgot how comfortable the bed was until I spent a week at our second location on Skopelos.
It also seems that all returning guests clamour for the higher numbered rooms so by the law of averages returnees will be disappointed some of the time. At the end of the day you only spend a few hours sleeping and washing in your room so just try to remember the rest of your holiday and chill.

Room Tip: I e-mailed the hotel the week before I went to request a higher numbered room. I translated my reque...
