Plaza Skiathos Hotel

We first stayed at The Plaza 18 years ago and loved it then. We have been to Skiathos since and found we kept returning to Kanapitsa for the beach and scenery so we decided to try the Plaza again. So glad we did. This time we had children with us (13 and 10). We had adjoining rooms with a connecting door (311 and 311a). Booking directly with the hotel was simple and reception staff so helpful. Could understand that we are used to paying for the hotel before we went! Balance is paid on leaving. The rooms we had were a double and two singles with new wet room showers. The maid cleaned them daily, made the beds, changed towels etc. Breakfast was nice although some things like croissants stopped ariving towards the end of our stay. Resturant staff were very helpful especially Agela (such a lovely person). Pool and garden was spotless and poolf filters were thoroughly changed each evening. Bar staff Dana and Panos were superb!! and great with the kids. The evening meal we had here was amongst the best food we had, moussaka and mixed grill cooked by 'Shakira'.
Water taxi from beach opposite.
To sum up - lovely family hotel, great staff, great location and close to all facilities. What more do you want? We will definately return unless the hotel changes.

My husband snd I stayed once again in July at this lovely hotel. It is in a wonderful location - so tranquil, with wonderful views. We love visiting Skiathos and wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. The staff are very pleasant and helpful and the transfer to and from the airport in the hotel minibus makes the journey very easy.
The hotel, rooms and grounds are kept immaculately clean and tidy and the rooms, although a little small, are well-appointed with efficient air-conditioning, fridge and tv. We once again had a room in the main block with wonderful sea views and an updated bathroom which had a walk in, powerful shower.
The rooftop breakfast room offers fantastic views of the bay and the food on offer was delicious. We particularly enjoyed the fresh fruit with greek yoghurt and honey.
We ate in the hotel taverna on one occasion and enjoyed our meal very much. We also enjoyed dining at the Kanapitsa taverna on the beach both lunchtime and in the evening (it is open until late). You can sit by candlelight about three feet from the sea and enjoy delicious traditional greek food. Again, the staff there are very pleasant and welcoming and the prices are very reasonable.
We took the water taxi from the beach into Skiathos town several times and it's lovely to wander about the streets of the old port, browsing the shops and deciding where to dine. You are spoilt for choice with some wonderful tavernas offering excellent food. We have some favourites which include Dionyssos (where live greek music is performed every night) and also the Windmill for the fabulous food and wonderful views. A special mention also for the Final step. Again, the food is outstanding and the restaurant has lovely views over the new port. We enjoyed it so much we dined there two nights in a row. Pam, who runs the restaurant, really cares about pleasing her customers, and the hospitality and quality of the food and service was excellent.
We usually get the water taxi back to the hotel, but if staying late in town the taxis are plentiful and fairly cheap. (We paid 12 euros).
I would highly recommend this hotel and we will certainly be returning.

Room Tip: A room on a high floor in the main block have the best views.

We spent one week at this hotel, our general impression is good and these are the points to be underlined:

1) we chose the half-board accommodation and were definitely surprised by the food quality, genuine mediterrean tastes (not mass food) never hard to digest and satisfactory menu options;
2) the hotel staff is very friendly and this adds quality to your stay;
3) our room was in the so called "second building", very close to the main one but with not renewed rooms and, what's more, no lift (this is an issue expecially when you have to carry on your luggage up to your room floor);
4) the only disappointing service was the housekeeping. During the whole week our bed sheets were never changed, and bath towels, although changed everyday, were not cleaned.

...not sure if I would stay again at this hotel... of course would come back at the restaurant anyhow.

Tips for the hotel administration:
- our compliments to the restaurant chef, definitely a valuable contribution to the customers' satisfaction;
- also thanks to the waitress Angela, very friendly and helpful beyond duties

Room Tip: if possible, ask for a room located in the main building (not the second building)

We arrived at the Plaza Hotel after a quick private transfer in the hotel minibus, which was a lovely touch as everybody else had to get coaches to their accommodation. A 10-15 minute journey out of town, the hotel is set around 500 metres away from the main road - great for peace and quiet, but a long hot walk to the local bus service (which is great, cheap and quick).

First Impressions - Upon arriving at the hotel and walking up the marble steps, the reception is clean and airy, with very attentive staff, a , bar, a games room and a temperamental, expensive wifi service. There are secure safes (3 Euros per day) which are well worth it. The staff behind the counter will look after your keys while you are out for the day/night, and always remembered who we were and what room we were in upon our return. They did anything you asked of them, from booking car hire, taxis and arrange the best table in the best restaurants (Windmill Restaurant, Skiathos Town).

Checking In – This was a very quick process and everything necessary was explained to us. Unfortunately, despite our request for a sea-view room, ours was set in the second building, behind the main hotel, with a view of just an outhouse and some trees. There is no lift so you have to carry your bags up two flights of stairs (with no offer of assistance). The room was typically Greek - basic but functional – tiled floor, a fridge (that you cannot place your own things in?), a wardrobe, 2 pushed together single beds and a small TV set on a long vanity table. The air con is great and fast to cool the room, but the overall feel of the room was disappointing and basic, reminiscent of my teenage holidays in cheap Kavos resorts. The shower was not attached to the wall (which was quickly resolved when we informed reception) but it still trickled out very slowly, and the bathroom was showing its age - the daily cleaners were great but couldn't do much to make it look any cleaner. The doors slammed very loud and you could hear everything going on around you. In the end, with no chance of changing to a sea-view room (which by all accounts are absolutely lovely), we accepted it is what it is. 2 weeks before our holiday, I emailed the hospital directly to ask for an upgrade to the suite (paid of course) but I did not get any reply, so I would recommend calling with any special requests.

Dining – Although we did not eat dinner at the hotel (there was too much variety in the town to miss) we did have breakfast every day, The breakfast room was on the top floor of the hotel with amazing views over the ocean – this was lovely first thing in the morning! The food was basic and had most of what you would expect but not a very high standard - tasteless steamed food mostly, with toast and fresh fruit, but enough to set you up for the day and there was very good coffee. There is a poolside bar, which serves snacks, drinks and ice-cream, however I would highly recommend walking 50 metres further to the beach. Here there is a taverna with a snacks/drinks area, and then a restaurant which was absolutely excellent! There was an extensive menu with very high quality food, free wifi for those who need it and good prices, and the drinks were great – the water taxi would leave from the pier that the restaurant overlooked, and we often would pop in for a glass of wine before we headed into the town.

Beach and Pool – The beach was long and secluded, but the tide was often quite close – the sunbeds were 8 Euros for two, and after paying you were brought a freezing bottle of water each which was a nice touch. The sun was always blazing and there is a wide variety of watersports to take part in. The pool was right by the front entrance of the hotel, and not very secluded – 1 metre away is the car park. The pool is small, and there are not very many sunbeds, but I would suppose this area is more suited for children, and the beach is better for adults.

Overall, the location of the hotel is great, if a little far from the main road, and the beach, the taverna and the hotel staff are fantastic, but the hotel itself needs substantial work to become more up to date and in line with its rivals, whose hotels we would visit next time we go to Skiathos. The room standards, general hotel decor and quality of breakfast need work, but having said that, the hotel proved a good enough base for our exploration of this excellent little island.

Room Tip: Ensure you get a room in the main hotel, with a sea-view. Reviews suggest these are much nicer, and...

I cannot fault this hotel.
We had 2 double rooms with 1) balconies, 2) sea views and 3) connecting/adjoining rooms. We specifically requested this so we wouldn't be on the ground floor having read the reviews. We paid extra for said rooms.
It was beautifully clean, fresh towels every day, etc
The staff are remarkable; My daughter and I have a nut allergy, they had pool service and a lovely bar overlooking the sea but peanuts came with the drinks, this could have been fatal but was remedied by angels called Dana a waitress & Panos the head barman/cocktail guru they went into action,(hardly a surprise he was from Sparta - truth!) no nuts on the premises for 2 weeks, they served crisps! She was amazing, speaking 8 languages. Panos knew all the best beaches etc and was great with our girls he was so polite and helpful and his cocktails are a work of art!.The best we've had (sorry Taz - Rhodes) Everyone was treated the same by these 2, they went over and above board a real asset to the hotel.
Dimitri (greek for she knows) 1 of the receptionists was fab, she suggested brilliant beaches, places to eat, always helpful. The beds were hard but there were mattress toppers if we wanted. All you had to do was ask.
The water taxi 100m from the hotel came hourly and it is just so wonderful, a free gentle blow dry for the hair as well, last 1 at 10.30pm, normal taxis available.( There is pick up and drop off from the airport with hotel's own transport, he was lovely also, who kept a superb fresh-water pool and grounds beautiful!)
Breakfast; , continental, cooked (eggs, boiled, fried, omelette) ham, cheese,fruit, tinned & fresh, yoghurt. Baguettes, sliced bread and melba toast, cake, all countries catered for, courtesy of brilliant chefs and ever smiling waitresses Angela & Suzzana (who also work in the taverna) held in a roof top terrace eat in or out fantastic!
The food at the taverna was marvellous and the Greek buffet was lovely with local and up-to-date music.
I cannot stress how the team of staff contributed to our holiday and Dana a special thank you.

Room Tip: Ask for balcony/sea view and the block overlooking the pool.

My partner and I went there in June this year and had an incredible time. The location was perfect for us being 50 metres from the beach, and having the sea taxi go there meant Skiathos Town was incredibly easy to get to. We rented a quad-bike from a man at the top of the hill in Skiathos Town and saw all the sites in a couple of days. We also visited loads of gorgeous beaches.

The hotel itself was exactly what we needed. It was basic but clean, the food was really nice and the staff were amazing. Panos and Dana in the bar and restaurant both made our holiday special and it felt like we made had friends by the time we left. We ended spending every night at the hotel bar drinking their cocktails and loved it! They were both brilliant and we would definitely go back if they are there again next year!!

If I had one thing to suggest to anyone visiting The Plaza it would be ask Dana for a Daquiri and Panos for Mojito. You won't regret it!!!

This hotel is in need of a major room improvement , I've used better showers in junior school. The hotel reception area and pool look good, but that's unfortunately where it ends. The place is kept clean,but for the price we paid I expected at the very least 3star but for me definitely 2 star.
