This apartment block is located up quite a few steps from the main coast road....and being staggered itself means that if you're staying on the 5th or 6th floors you have quite a climb as there is no lift. This does mean however that once inside your apartment you have stunning views out over the water. The air-con is at best average so be warned in the summer months. The chap who served us was very friendly but completely out of his depth when it came to using the chip + pin machine as my girlfriend had to talk him through the process! Our shower didn't have any hot water; this complaint was met by an offer of a free night's stay next time we visit - but none of this was in writing so no guarantee this would happen if we did return....which we won't.

I stayed there with a friend and we had a great time. We loved sitting at our balcony enjoying the view and the sun. The rooms where clean with fridge, hotplates and the most necessary kitchen supplies.

This hotel was just off Ashely beach (approx 5min walk) with stunning views of the bay and beach and the staff were the friendliest and most helpful people possible.

We have just returned from two weeks in Poros, preceded by a couple of nights in Athens. I had researched the island and the accommodation extensively before we booked and the view from the Panorama was what sold it to us. We were not disappointed. Words can not describe how amazing the view from these apartments is.

I was a little apprehensive about the steps (which all previous reviewers had mentioned) and they are definitely not for the faint hearted. To clarify - there are 78 steps from the road up to the apartments and then there were a further 85 to our (huge) apartment on the 5th floor. It should also be noted that that is the number of individual steps and does not take account of the small landings/platforms every 10 or so steps which are steeply sloped and that there is a small hill up to the bottom of the first steps if you are coming from Askeli Beach or Poros Town. You may think, as I have spent a full paragraph describing the steps, that this was a problem (and I admit that I did moan every time I climbed up them) but don't let that put you off. When you (finally) get to your room, the views are so stunning that you quickly forget the climb.

Arrival and Accommodation
The apartments are located on the edge of Askeli Beach, on the Poros Town side. We arrived on the regular ferry from Poros and got a taxi from the port to the apartments (tip: be first in the queue to get off the ferry as there were not many taxis waiting). It only took a few minutes to get to the apartments and was about 3.5 euros.

As previously stated, reception is on the 3rd floor. No-one was on duty but they had left instructions for us about our room and keys and we were able to let ourselves in.

The apartment was very big - a double and a twin bed in the bedroom, large kitchen with a sofa which was reasonably equipped for Greece and a large bathroom. The single bed did creak but the double didn't ;-) The mattresses were hard but we prefer this. There were plenty of extra pillows, blankets, throws and loads of storage space flor clothes and luggage. It had a real homely feel to it and it worked - I didn't want to leave!

Everything was very clean although the bathroom needed some attention (cracked shower tray, missing window vent which allowed wasps in and no holder for the shower head) but everything else was in good working order. When we arrived there was no safe in the room as had been advertised however when we queried this with reception later on in the day, they arranged for someone to come the next day and fit one which they did. The a/c worked well and

The cleaning service was great - sheets and towels changed every 2-3 days, bins emptied and floor swept etc every day. All the staff that we dealt with (not many as we are pretty self sufficient) were lovely and although we didn’t ask for much I got the impression that they would have been more than happy to help with anything.

Location and Getting Around
The apartments are a little isolated. It is a shame that the supermarket next door has closed as it is quite a long walk (particularly with the steps) to go to the supermarket. The closest is in Askeli (there are 2, both quite large, local and well stocked) and also one not much further in Kanali (on the way to Poros Town) which seemed to close during the afternoon. There is also a tobacco/snack stall on the beach at Askeli which was open late. A round trip to the supermarkets in Askeli to get bread in the morning took about 20-25 minutes. There were several apartments and villas near the Panorama so may be a good business opportunity to stock some essential items (water, beer etc).

There is a bus that goes from Askeli to Poros Town every 10 - 15 minutes (1.40 euros). Not sure where the bus stop is, just seems to stop wherever there are people wanting to get on/off. This bus (white with blue stripe) goes from Monastiri, through Askeli and Kanali to Poros Town. There is another bus (just white) which goes from Poros Town in the other direction to Neorio, Love Bay and Russian Bay. I had been on a health kick for a number of months prior to our holiday and so had visions of us walking to all the beaches however it was so hot in August that the furthest we walked was to Poros Town (20 minutes to outskirts and 30 minutes to centre) and Kanali Beach (10-15 minutes).

In cooler months I would think that you could easily walk to Neorio and Love Bay and probably Russian Bay. Monastiri involves a very steep hill in both directions so I would stick to the bus although the beach there isn't great anyway.

We hired an ATV for 1 day in the first week and had a good drive round the island. It cost 25 euros for 1 day or 35 euros for one with a reverse gear and it was great so we ended up hiring one for the whole of the second week (got one without reverse this time as you really didn’t need it and got it for 20 euros a day. The box on the back was easily big enough to take our beach bags and any shopping we picked up on the way back although with a full tank of petrol, both of us on board and shopping, it did struggle to get up the final bit of the hill to the apartments! Both were hired from Moto Stelios in Askeli although they also have a branch in Poros Town.

We also hired a car for a day from Pops Autos in Galatas (on the front just to the left of the car ferry stop from Poros). This cost about 45 euros for the day and we used it to go to Epidavros, Nafplio, Mycanne, Argos and Cornith. Some of the roads around the mountains are mental but the views are amazing.

Beaches
I wouldn’t say that any of the beaches on Poros are truly beautiful, there are better ones elsewhere in Greece they did all have their own charm with warm, still, clear water and beautiful views. Askeli Beach is dominated by 2 bars with very loud music so not relaxing unless you go further away from these however the pebbles/stones increase as the volume decreases. Kanalli always seemed windy and was a bit grubby although it did have a great restaurant. Love Bay was very pretty but small and often busy. Russian Bay was our favourite – never too busy, sandy, good chilled out music and great Souvlaki sticks and toasties. 2 x sunbeds and an umbrella was around 6 euros on most beaches.

Food and Nightlife
We were there the last week in August and the first week in September and I was shocked how quiet it was. Friday and Saturday nights in Poros Town were busy but outside these times it was very quiet. Askeli was quiet every night. We ate out in Askeli maybe 4-5 times and although we eat quite late, there was never any more than 4 tables occupied in any of the restaurants that we were in. You could tell by the amount of accommodation and the size of the restaurants that Poros has been busier in previous years but it does look like the recession is hitting the island hard. On the Sunday night we tried to go to the club that should have been open Fri, Sat and Sun but it was closed. There were a few music bars in Poros Town that were quite busy after midnight on the Friday and Saturday nights but very quiet other than this. Cafe del Mar in Askeli was a lovely bar with great cocktails it was just a shame that we were often the only people there.

Drink prices were quite expensive and food had definitely increased but talking to colleagues who have been to other Greek islands this year, it does seem that Poros is still cheaper.

Overall this is a great island and we loved the Panorama aprtments - I honelsty beliive you cannot beat the view from here and as the whole island is very hilly - chances are you are going to have some steps wherever you stay so don't let them put you off booking here - just hire a car/ATV! For 30 euros a night you really cannot beat this place.

Room Tip: 3rd floor would be ideal - still a great view without too many steps!

We stayed for 3 nights in September 2009 and had a fantastic stay. The apartment on the top floor was enormous with a large kitchen cum dining room cum bedroom (with 2 single beds) and a large bedroom with a double and single bed. There is plenty of space for clothes etc. The terrace is fantastic - it is large with the most fantastic panoramic views over the sea. The airconditioning is included in the very reasonable price of 30 euros a night. There are a large number of steps from the beach to the apartment and then up to the apartment, but it is well worth it for the views, and there are a number of seats to rest at on the way up! The beach, which is lovely is well equipt with 2 loungers and a parasol for 6 euros, and is very near. There are a number of watersports available at the beach. There are a number of tavernas and cafes along the beach. The restaurants we ate in were all delicious and good value for money. For those who are looking for fitness activities, there is a well equipt gym about 10 minutes from the apartments near the supermarket in Askeli and costs 5 euros a visist. The port of Poros (which is about a 20 minute walk) is very pretty and is a hub of activity with boats coming and going all the time. I would highly recommend both the Panorama apartments and Poros for a relaxing holiday if you are looking for tremendous views, a nice beach, a pretty busy harbour and friendly welcoming people

My family and I have stayed at the Panorama apartments at least once a year for about 6 years now. It's true that the steps are not for the faint hearted, and also true that the next-door supermarket is closed. However, the steps are the price you pay for the views, and whilst I would never recommend it for the elderly or infirm, I would also say it's unlikely you'll find anywhere on Poros that has finer views. Hence the name - Panorama! Christian is always extremely helpful, polite and professional, and has become a real friend to us over the years. We feel very welcome there on every visit, and although we have booked holidays elsewhere, we always return to Poros, and always to the Panorama. It's like a second home to us now. I'm sure there are many places to stay on Poros that may offer better accommodation, or greater convenience, but at the end of the day, it's about what you want from your holiday. For us, it's the view, the friendly staff, and the feeling of belonging we always get when we stay at Panorama. Definitely don't book there if you have heart problems, or physical problems that may cause you difficulty with the steps. Otherwise, I can't recommend it highly enough.

We have just returned from a fortnight's holiday on Poros, staying at the Panorama apartments. Christian the manager and his staff were extremely helpful, especially as we booked flights and transfers independantly; the local information he was able to supply made this process unproblematic. The apartments themselves had fantastic sea views from all rooms, and although the stairs where not for the fainthearted, the climb was definately worth it. The beach was 5 mins walk away, safe and clean with clear blue sea, only crowded at weekends, but always somewhere to sit.
Plenty of tavernas providing great greek food, locals very friendly. Having last visited 25 years ago, we didn't find Poros commercialised, keeping it's Greek charm. Our teenagers enjoyed the nightlife, in the local bars and 1 nightclub, probably too quiet for hardened ravers but a good introduction for 17 year olds.
Watersports were available, supermarkets well stocked, language barrier not a problem, eating out very reasonable.
Over recent years we have visited Turkey, Gambia, and Cyrpus, and we will definately be returning here!
