“Peace and great views of a great island”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2013

We stayed in the "Orion" room in September 2013. The room is the largest and highest on the property and offers a terrace with suprb views, a private balcony, canopied bed and 360 views from its many windows. My only complaint is that if your going to have a great big TV in a room please get it a signal!

the breakfasts are basic but adequate with good coffee, orange juice and a selection of cheeses and cereals.

The comments about the steps to get to the hotel are a little misleading. Yes there are 400 steps but if your of average fitness this will not be a problem. If you want the vistas you have to climb up to get them, if not stay lower down towards the harbour front.

Yhdra itself is a delight, a reminder of what a proper Greek isloand should be.

Just returned from Nefeli after yet another wonderful time on Hydra. Nefeli is number 1 for hospitality, relaxation, sensational views and all round good time. Brett and gang understand their guests and tailor make the holiday to suit.......you are helped to do as little or as much as you want.
Rooms are traditional and very comfortable....great air conditioning and a lovely place to return after a hard day walking, lying in the sun, swimming and sampling delicious fare....oh and a few wines at the many Tavernas. Drinks on the verandah at dusk is hard to beat. It is no coincidence that many guests are "returns". Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Top floor room provides sensational views. Middle floor great deck and reading area.

We can really recommend this nice hotel. We stayed there for two week and we loved it. The staff was very helpful and friendly and made us feel welcome. Rooms are nice and the view is amazing. We used from 7 to 10 minutes up the stairs and it was a very nice walk. We will come back.

We have just returned from Hydra and staying at this hotel which was fantastic. I was worried having read the other reviews about the number of steps up but they are only shallow and we didn't find them a problem. (Although would definitely recommend getting a mule to carry heavy luggage and show you the way when you arrive.)

Our room was clean and comfortable and the bathroom problem-free with a great shower. The breakfasts were delicious and a great start to the day. The fact they start at 845 and run til 11 tells you everything about the fact that this is a place to relax :-). The terrace area and views are fantastic and the team including Brett were incredibly hospitable. We loved staying here and can't recommend enough.

I just can't stop going to this little slice of paradise. This time we got upgraded by the manager as we were loyal clients to a stunning room on the top floor over looking the sea, simply stunning. Breakfast was as normal nice and simple with fresh juice, fresh bread which is still warm if you get up early enough, not that i did. We visited St Thomas beach which i would highly recommend however i would take some lunch as they don't have much in the way of food over there, what they do have is a lovely very quiet secluded beach, i will attach some pictures. Christina's taverna is a must to visit as is Ostria, i would also suggest a pizza at Izzalos in the harbor but only if you are feeling hungry as the pizzas are massive. Weather was predictable 28-30 degrees but the rooms all have nice powerful air con so its nice and cool at night. If you want peace and quiet go check this place out, the only noise you will hear are the occasional donkey coming up the hill oh and don't be put off by the hill, the first day its tiring but by the third you don't mind at all, we met a couple who must be 70 plus who were staying there and if they can manage it i think anyone can, plus sometimes you have to climb a hill to see the view and this one doesn't disappoint.

Room Tip: I like the top floors because of the view

This hotel is inaccessible for the elderly or for anyone not in perfectly fit condition. The climb takes over 20 minutes with steep steps. Once arrived after sweating and breathing hard, there is nothing up top. You must go back down each time you want to go to the port, have meals or have a drink. We did not stay at the hotel. We had reserved 2 rooms for 3 nights each through hotels.com. Impossible to get any money back even though we abandoned our rooms!! We lost over 600 euros.
I want to warn everyone so the same thing does not happen to them. Whatever reviews I read, underestimated the climb! Really very difficult especially in the heat of summer. STAY AWAY!!! Especially angry also since we lost so much money. No commercial gesture on the part of the hotel or hotels.com.

I chose the Nefeli after reading the reviews and the description of the walk upward to have the views and the tranquility. Keri the hostess is charming and welcoming and the breakfast is very nice. However, we felt hard done by once we saw our room which was bijoux to say the least. We thought it wouldn't bother us too much but when we kept walking into each other while trying to get ready we decided to ask for an upgrade, I felt justified as it wasn't a bargain or budget holiday. Brett was helpful and offered us a lovely size room but only for 3 nights before his next booking arrived so we had to spend our last night back in room 11. He explained that it was due to the expedia booking, shame for us really, but we tried not to let it spoil our time in Hydra. Other than that the Nefeli is a lovely place but do be prepared for the exercise, which can be a challenge in the heat, my calfs were quite tight for a couple of days but it wouldn't put me off going again. I recommend booking with the hotel directly then you can make sure you get one of the better rooms.

Room Tip: email the hotel to ensure you don't get a small room thats not suitable for a couple
