“The best in Sparta”

Best hotel In Sparta, Menelaion hotel is a good value for price, and much more aligned to international standards. Located just in front of a pedestrian area, you'll be able to have some greek "Frappé" without having to walk. Rooms are new and clean, breakfast is average if you expect something impressive you'll be disappointed. But with regards to the size of the city the hotel is definitely largely acceptable. Swimming pool is nice for hotel size, but not sufficiently exposed to sun in the afternoon if you planned some tan!

The hotel is beautifully renovated in all areas, centrally located and it does have some parking space reserved for hotel guests right in front of it. One only has to ask. Same applies for key cards: we were given two upon request. Breakfast is good, but it could offer more variety. The restaurant on the ground floor has been a surprise. Very good Greek food with a twist, first class ingredients, fair prices - but still higher than all other local restaurants.

Not to be missed: taverna "STELLAKOS" in the nearby village Parori (about 5 km from downtown Sparta) has also been a great place to eat local food of prime quality. We enjoyed char-coaled chicken, freshly cut salads, great cheese, good wine and fine Greek-style desserts.

Elegance and old world charm on the main street of this quaint town. One of the few Greek hotels that has survived renovations without the decorative nightmare of garish overkill. Stylish, simple and classical. Pool side dining, street front cafe, exceptional staff. No other choice for Laconia based exploring. And an exceptional price too, 65 without breakfast was great value for this level of hotel.

We checking in for 4 nights to be close to city center. Check in was a breeze, warm and friendly. The girls at the front desk are the most charming hotel associates I have met in a long time.
The rooms are far more spacious then Maniatis Hotel and the bathrooms are large, bright and clean with all amenities.
The pool although small, was adequate and refreshing on a hot afternoon. Be advised the pool area does not offer lounge chairs.
The beds aren't the best I've slept in, but acceptable. We didn't have a chance to eat in the restaurant, but heard from others the food is superior.
We can't wait to return again next year!

Recently renovated, centrally located, looks nice and clean yet very expensive in our view for what it offers.

Extremely poor service for the price you pay (you have to figure out how to get your luggage to the reception from your car as there is no parking). Strictly one key card per room even if there are 3 persons in a room. Misleading pricing (a so called family room is actually two connecting rooms. So far so good. However if you book the two rooms separately instead of as a family room you will save yourself more than 50 Euro/day. Go figure...)
Other than that ok with a nice little pool on the ground floor and a very average b/fast.

Room Tip: If there are four guests avoid booking a family room. Request instead two standard connecting rooms.

Around the corner from the small but interesting archeological museum of ancient Sparti, the Menelaion offers real traveller comfort: firm beds, a good shower, and a fine breakfast buffet. My room had a balcony, but it looked out onto the busy street and the uninspiring view of modern Sparti, so there was no temptation to use it. Although . . . my room faced west, and I could see above the roofs of the buildings opposite the snowcovered peaks of Mt Taygetes, and nothing could spoil the beauty of that. There is one tiny lift, but it is fairly swift, and the stairs, of course, are useful. My group took advantage of the hotel restaurant on our first night. The food was just okay, but considering the great taverna options just down the street, was fairly bland and 'international' in presentation and taste rather than delicious, Greek and inspiring. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. If you have to go to Sparti, either to see what little remains of the ancient citystate or or to see Mystras or to conduct business, the Menelaion is a haven.

Room Tip: If they offer you a room with a balcony, remember that you will sit above traffic. The idea of an o...
