Start at the top and buy the first ticket. The grandeur is best appreciated solo, before the tour buses huff into the parking lot.

Perched on top of a hill and straggling down it, this abandoned town provided some of the best photos of a very scenic holiday. You need to be quite active to cope with the steep hill paths if you want to explore all parts and I agree with the reviewer who suggested planning on half a day. Bring refreshments. The two entry points are helpful. I find Byzantine architecture curiously homely and satisfying but it is the views from every part of the hillside which are truly memorable both down into the valley and up to the snowy skyline. We went in early April and the wild flowers were an added attraction.

Visit Mystras in spring or autumn, imagine the lords of the past riding sceptic through the narrow stoned paths and marvel the view of the characteristic Peloponesean landscape. (Wear proper shoes!)

Best to visit in March/April when the place is full of flowers.
Nice views of the surrounding areas.
There's a lower entry point, a higher entry point and the fortification on top of the hill.
