Let's face it. There isn't a lot to recommend Sparti to a contemporary tourist. Looking for relics from the ancient past? There just aren't many about. So this delightful new museum is a bonus. The story of olives and olive products throughout history is beautifully presented. Artwork illustrates the olive in Greek myth and legend. There is a small giftshop, with exquisite silver brooches and necklaces for the ladies, all with an olive theme, and there is the ubiquitous olive oil soap. True, you can find the soap much cheaper elsewhere, such as Adrianou in Plaka in Athens, but the soap here is nicely packaged to make a pretty present for the folks back home. The museum has a little coffee shop, which wasn't open when we were there.
