“Exquisite”
Reviewed July 25, 2014

Hermes holding the Infant Dionysos is one of the great works of art ever. Hermes is polished marble on the front and rough cut on the back. Created by Praxiteles nearly 1900 years before Michelangelo's David it is striking the ability he had in forming this sculpture. Just this piece alone is worth the price of Admission to the Museum.

“Jewel of the museum”
Reviewed July 10, 2014

I wonder why the main photo for this post doesn't represent the statue at all but some tholos instead?!
This statue is very well displayed and lit and it is interesting to look at Hermes' face while turning around the statue to discover many different expressions.

“Hermes”
Reviewed June 22, 2014

Quite a good looking statue but in my opinion there are better statues in the National Archaeological Museum in Athens. The statue is well displayed as are all other items in this museum and especially the two pediments with one depicting the battle between the Lapiths and the centaurs in the main hall from the temple of Zeus.

“A Rare treasure.”
Reviewed June 16, 2014

One of the reasons I wanted to visit Olympia was to see the Hermes by Praxiteles. Most of his sculpture is known only from Roman copies, so this a monumental work and important in future Greek and Roman sculpture.
