After visiting the ruins, Andreas Stamos drove us to Olympia Land Winery. Please note, Andreas has our highest recommendation for his services through Taxi Katakolon and Olympia Tours. We were met by Amanda and her family upon arrival at the winery. Literally, we were greeted outside at the car upon our arrival by the entire family. I wanted to blurt out, you had me at yia sas (hello in Greek). Jerry MaGuire movie fans get it.
Amanda took the four of us on a wonderful tour of the winery. During the tour, it was very easy to notice the heart the family has put into their winery. Upon completion of the tour, Amanda brought us into the tasting room and sat us at a table with a wonderful spread of appetizers. We tasted the very generous portions of wine she poured us and she offered us more of anything we were interested in, i.e., second, third...forth tastings...etc. Napa/Sonoma, please take note!! At 6 Euro per person, this was value most US wineries are now missing. After spending some time with this family, I would have paid 20 Euro just for the lesson in courage, spirit and humility alone. At one point, Amanda started to tear up over a recent poor review given by a patron from a month earlier. I can say there was a lump in my throat at that moment. I suppose, wine snobs aren't limited to the United States.
Overall, we still talk about our experience in Olympia and particularly the kind and wonderful family at Olympia Land Winery. Folks, this winery is worth the moment, please share one with them.
Consider their selection of other goodies too. My neighbors loved the olives and cookies we brought back from the winery.
