Even if this is not the home of Agamemnon the citadel and the "beehive" are worth the visit due to their age (over 3500 years old) and relatively good state of repair. There are no crowds so you can spend as much or as little time as you like. A climb to the palace requires a good deal of energy but you will be rewarded. Definitely not handicapped accessible.

Mycenae is not one of the most amazing archaeological sites you can see in Greece but you should see it for sure.
Good place to visit if you are located near Nafplio / Argolida region. The price for tickets is too much for this place regarding cost of other arch. sites you can see on Peloponnese but anyway you should see place..

If you travel by car, try to come earlier in the morning. You need at least 2 hours to check this site and museum so try not to come when sun is in the peak.

The attraction is located on the top of the mountain. The lion gate is a must to see (the oldest sculpture in Europe). Make sure to check the opening hours as it varies sometime.

MYCENAE (in greek ''mikines'')is a glorious hill of an once upon a time fortress 3.500 years before today. Walking to the main entrance of the site, to the famous ''LIONS GATE'' you fell a bit of the ancient Greek History. Vast rocks built the walls of the fortress. The myth says that giants built tose walls. Still the walk going up the hill, you have the most vibrant view of the whole area till the city of Argos, or even the city of Nafplion. This is the reason why King Atreus or Agamemnon built this city. Bravo to the Ministry of Culture, to its people there, to UNESCO for keeping such place in such condition. Everything in order, sings perfect, the museum so clean, the answers to our quections so good. Dont miss at all visiting MYCENAE,as well as the nice museum and the big tombs one with an excellent built stone dome. Early morning after 09.00 is the perfect time to visit.

The compound contains ruins, a gate, a tomb and a modern museum containing artifacts from ancient times. It's hard to imagine that items as old as 3000 BC are still in such good condition. Photos taken without flash are allowed in the museum. The interior of the tomb smelled like goats but it is very tall. As expected, the terrain on the walk towards the Lion's Gate is very uneven and rocky. Restrooms are located away from the museum in a separate building containing the gift shop.
