“Wow - Want to Return!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 6, 2013

What can I say about Thea's and Ikaria? It was a trip of a lifetime that I'd like to return to as soon as possible. I've been to many Greek islands over the years and Ikaria holds a special place in my heart. In some ways, it is because if the amazing vistas of the blue sea as you round each bend. No matter how amazing a place is, though, I always need a "home" to come "home" to and Thea's Inn did the trick! It was just perfect for my small family (wife and 4 Y/O son) and my inlaws (wife's parents) from Chicago. Thea took care of us so well, we felt like family. Her breakfasts were so satisfying we didn't need to really eat until dinner. She clearly cares about what she does and does it with such generosity and spirit! Need more coffee? No problem. Need to use the phone to make a call? No problem. Need directions to this place? No problem. Thea thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality. It was a true gift to meet you and we hope to visit again some day to enjoy your kindness, the beauty of your side of Ikaria, hike around the beautiful topography, enjoy more of the beaches (but Nas Beach is TOPS!) (for those who haven't visited, it is a short walk down from Thea's), and enjoy your home cooking.

I had one of the best times during my accommodation in Thea's Inn. The people there make you feel more than welcome and they are ready to serve any traveler who came on the island for a purpose.....to find the secrets of this blue region corner of the world :-) Clean, quiet, tranquil with fantastic views and next to one of the best beaches of the island. Enjoy there the serenity of the environment and recharge your batteries before re-joining the fast pace of city life.

This is an excellent place to stay. The five en-suite rooms are simple but very pleasent with really comfy beds. Each has their own terrace, frig, and water-heating carafe. The views are simply scrumptious; of the sea, the sunset, and a dark sky full of all the stars one never sees in the city.
And the food is outstanding. Tourist and locals alike come here for both lunch and dinner. Thea, her husband and staff are so welcoming, I feel I may never want to leave. For walkers there are excellent opportunities to indulge. There is also a beach, although somewhat stony it is a delight. Just a short walk (about 2 klms away) is the nearest larger village with two full sandy beaches and a great sweet/coffee shop. This is not a glitzy resort. If you're into high fashion designer clothes and stilettos this is not the place for you.

Room Tip: Ikaria is a one of the five Blue Zone areas in the world. Theas is a place were a traveler can lear...

Go for the food (excellent breakfasts and dinners served all day), the location at the end of the road in Nas (marvellous sunsets on the Agean from your balcony), the ocean at your feet, the air, the white sand beach and the Temple of Artemis down the path, the drying plants in Thea's kitchen, that are the promise of even more tasteful meals. Go for Thea's friendship and laugh. Go for the Blue Zone. Come taste the yogurt and honey and the vegetable omelets washed down with mountain tea or sage tea !
Of course the rooms are small and bathrooms show their old age but who cares when you are in such an environment.

Room Tip: There are 5 rooms only. Ask for the room with the larger balcony.

Ikaria is a special place and Thea's Inn will make any visit even more special. Attached to the Inn is the most amazing restaurant where they serve organic vegetables that Ilais grows in his organic garden. The rooms are modestly appointed but have more than you'll need with free wifi, private shower, screened porch, tv, fridge and electric kettle. We brought our toddler son and he enjoyed running around the property and hearing/seeing the local animals. The view from the restaurant and the rooms of the Aegean is just amazing and on a clear day you can see Turkey. The sunsets were fantastic each and every night. Be sure to try the local wine and take a dip in the sea at the beach just a 3 minute walk down the hill. This is truly a quiet end of the road location where you feel like family after just a few short days.

If you are looking for peace and quiet, breath taking views, and fantastic food the this is the place to go! When we came into Athens from Chicago I was taken aback by the crazy traffic and busy streets whe we arrived at Thea's we were blown away by the views, warm staff, and family atmosphere. I can't say enough about their kindness and generosity, and just outside the inn is the most private romantic beach I have ever seen, plus her nephew is very good looking so girls hope he is in town :) . Best vacation ever!

This family-run Inn was the headquarters for the National Geographic team who discovered and researched the Ikarian Blue Zone. I've been back now twice and have gotten the same wonderful service. When you stay here, it's like becoming part of a family--Thea seems to know what your needs are before you do.

Attached to the hotels (which stunningly overlooks the Aegean) is the most amazing organic restaurant you've never heard of. Most of what she serves was grown in her family's gardens within a mile radius of her hotel. The food is delicious and made the traditional Ikarian way. This kind of food and family atmosphere has helped Ikaria become one of the longest-lived places. Maybe a stay here might even make you live to 100! -- Dan Buettner

Room Tip: All rooms are modest but have excellent sea view.
