Reviewed November 15, 2013

Nea Moni is in a beautiful setting, and the grounds are also quite nice. Tourists should be aware that it was closed in the early afternoon when we visited (it is an active monastery), so you need to time your visit

“A must visit sight”
Reviewed October 31, 2013

This is the classic Chios site. With 1000 years of history it is a do not miss sight on Chios. The on-site info is is a bit sketchy, but there is lots of info in guidebooks and Chiosnet.gr

“Nice but”
Reviewed October 27, 2013

This monastery is Unesco heritage. It is without doubt worth a visit but I will be honest : I was a bit disappointed; we saw nicer monasteries in Greek islands. The trip to the monastery is nice, up the mountains with nice views.

“Amazing site in centre of Chios”
Reviewed October 12, 2013

Nea Moni is a little difficult to find, as there is no signage until you get to the actual turn-off. This is a real oversight as this is a world-class attraction practically hidden away in the centre of the island. The history and buildings are fascinating, the setting is beautiful but the highlight is the Byzantine mosaics. It's a must-see if you are in Chios.
