“the best "soutzoukaki" in Thessaloniki”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2012

I believe this place specializes in soutzoukaki (a kind of meat ball), which I think could be considered as a trademark of Thessaloniki along with "bougatsa". Rather small menu but with high quality of taste.

“Over-priced below average fare”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2012 via mobile

Upon being seated we were offered recommendations for the two "specialities", γύρος (gyros) and τζουτζουκακια (Sousoukakia). The gyros arrived on a small plate containing only shaved meat and a nearly equal portion of raw onions. The Sousoukakia also arrived on small plates containing five sausages and a small helping of an extremely spicy substance which was probably dried chili. The food (and salad), whilst tasting quite nice, was certainly not deserving of the relatively high freight.

“Nice but expensive”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 9, 2012

Nice restaurant near the white tower of Thessaloniki. It is open only during weekdays and not on weekends. Its main dishes are gyros, soutzoukakia, and three or four salads- a quite limited choice- but not a huge drawback in the end. The dishes are tasty, the portions could be bigger. The service is a little hasty. Concerning the prices it is not an inexpensive choice, regarding the fact that both gyros as well as soutzoukakia is a rather cheap choice for a meat dish.

“Pleasant grill restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2012

A few steps away from the White Tower, Diagonios is regarded as an institution by Thessalonikians. The choice is quite limited and consists mainly of grilled meats. There's nothing wrong with that - they stick to the things they do well and freshly. The place is famous for its meatballs (Soutzoukakia) and they're very good and tasty indeed. The grilled country sausage left nothing to be desired either and the housemade appetizers such as eggplant salad and the freshly-cut chips are also excellent. What makes the place stand out from the crowd of Greek grill restaurants is the impression of freshness and cleanliness it leaves. The winelist is surprisingly good. Elliniko next door is also a reasonable choice if Diagonios is full or if you're into mezedes. Will definitely return!
