Located in an industrial area, in-between nightclubs, lap-dancing bars and the docks, the almost new-build hotel is surprisingly plush and comfortable.
The reproduction antique furniture in the spacious lobby and bar provide a charming resting/meeting place, with the bar serving up some pretty good espresso and a decent caipirinha.
The restaurant is all style and little substance, as well presented meals are charmingly served and expensively priced, yet provide nothing above-average from a culinary point of view.
Breakfast was comprehensive, with a wide choice and swift service. Almost too swift, in fact, as I played a game of musical chairs, with my table being cleared and re-assigned to another diner every time I got up to get another drink or something from the buffet, regardless of half-eaten plates of food deliberately left as an indication of my continuing presence.
The large rooms provided everything you need, free broadband, comfortable beds, room to move, a great bath and shower with good water pressure/temperature. The only poor thing was there was no air-con, just heat coming from the air vents, making the room unbearably hot, or just not fresh. Opening the window was possible, however there was a communal balcony outside so for security reasons it seemed unwise to keep it open whilst asleep or absent from the room.More
