“Fantastic Location and Friendly Staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

On arrival the receptionist was very nice and offered us a room at the back or the front, on his recommendation we went with a room at the front. He very kindly gave us a room on the top floor so the view was fantastic and you could see the sea and bay (and lots more). Some people may say its noisy as it faces the main road but as a very light sleeper I had no trouble whatsoever with the noise and could hardly hear it.

The breakfast is quite minimal (think its catered for the Greek people more than English) however there was cereal, eggs, and bread so I didn't have any problems with eating it.

The location is fantastic, all you need is right on your doorstep. I found that everything you needed was to the left of the hotel (we did go right but didn't see as much this way). There is a coffeefood takeout place just to the left of the hotel (over the road from starbucks) which had big slices of pizza for 1 euro and lovely freshly squeezed orange juice.

There is also free wi-fi at the hotel (you just ask for the code at reception) and the maids came and cleaned the room every day. There is a hairdryer in the bathroom and shower gel/shampoo too (in case you forget to take any).

We ate at 2 different restaurants, one was recommended by a friend who lives in the city (couldn't tell you the name of it though) and the other was right on the front, right by Aristotelous Square - the name was in greek so I don't know what it meant but it had the name "Ouzo" in the title and they mainly served ouzo drinks. The food here was delicious so I would highly recommend it.

It's well worth a visit to the Castra (Castle in English) as you can see a fantastic view of all of Salonika from here, we got a taxi from the hotel and it only cost 4 euros. We walked back down to the main part of the city though as it was fairly easy.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front and on the highest floor possible.

We are a family of four, one baby and one 7-year old. We arrived by car, after one day of driving, from Belgrade, and found hotel (300m from Aristotle's square) in the second attempt, since the sign was not on. We wanted a secured garage, and the hotel has it. For Thessaloniki centre, this is premium, and it costs only EUR5 per day. We booked triple room with baby cot. The staff was helpful, considerate and forthcoming. The room was smallish, but for one night, enough. Everything was clean, it has a terrace, it was on 7th floor, very quiet, considering its position on Egnatia street. Next morning the breakfast was buffet, again really helpful staff, they let us stay in the room a bit longer without extra charge. I was more than happy to see that the hotel had plenty of guests. If we need a hotel in Thessaloniki, I will not look around, definitely.

Room Tip: Higher rooms allow for an open window. Rooms facing street could be noisy.

The hotel has been recently renovated; free Wi-Fi is accessible throughout the property. The rooms are clean, warm and spacious. You are within a 5 minute walk from bars, local market and restaurants. The entire hotel staff is gentle and prompt to assist you with anything you might need. Even though it is a 3 star property, it’s better than some 5 star properties I have stayed in, which were facing problems with plumbing internet access etc. I would strongly recommend it for anyone planning to visit Thessaloniki. Special thanks to Markos for all his kind help!!!! We will be back!!!

We have traveled several time to Thessaloniki but its the first time we stayed at the El Greco, it is in a very central position right on one of the main shopping streets, in easy waliking distance to all points of intrest in the town, plenty of bus stops & taxis outside. hotel was very clean & rooms were modern and charming, the only bad side for me was that they put us on the top floor and I don't like hights so i could not go out on the balcony, I requested to change room but they didn't have anything available..breakfast was basic but there are lots of nice things to eat in Thesaloniki for a couple of euros.

We booked the hotel due to its centrality and the free parking facility. However, when we wanted to park our car in the garage beneath the hotel, this was not possible and we had to park our car for 10 euros a day at a parking lot somewhere else despite the fact that they mentioned on the website that they offer free parking.

The rooms were OK, but they were really hot and it was not possible to turn on the air conditioning. The bathroom was small, with a low ceiling. All in all, we will never book this hotel again due to the misleading promises at the website and the unwillingness of the staff to assist in solving our problems.

A great hotel location wise-within walking distance of more or less everything, and only a 20 minute taxi ride from the airport! The hotel facilities were basic, paid for breakfats for seven days but only ate it once. The bathroom looked nothing like it did on the hotel website, and although it had a bath there were no plugs available to actually use it. However, that said, the bathroom was clean and the water was hot! Had requested a double bed, but ended up with two singles, which my partner and I pushed together and the maid bless her put an extra blanket rolled up between the two beds to try and stop the gap! There was a small TV in the room with a couple of decent channels.
The room was cleaned every day, all the linen and towels changed, and it didn't matter what time we left the room it was always done on our return. The maid always asked if we needed anything.
There was always someone on reception, 24hours a day. We didn't use the bar-though the hotel wasn't that busy so I don't know if it was open. There are two free computers and a printer in the reception area, the in-room wifi was a little hit and miss and on the 6th floor the signal was weak, but we were there on holiday not business so weren't too concerned!
The price was very reasonable especially considering the location!
Our room was at the front of the hotel, overlooking the busy main road, but with the balcony door closed there was virtually no noise at all, and it was quite nice standing out there and watching the world go by!
A couple of evenings were a bit chilly but the heating fan worked a treat-it was a bit noisy but worth having on for half hour!!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter but you miss out on feeling like you're 'in' the city! Go...

I've traveled all over Greece, and this hotel was definitely a great find for the price paid. Pretty good deal as compared to other hotels in the area.

Located on Egatia St, a main street of Thessaoniki - you are situated near EVERYTHING. Main restaurants and cafes around the area are open 24 hours a day (in case you get a late night craving for something)... Totally safe area - never felt uneasy at all.

Rooms were spacious (by European standards), super clean, and decorated pretty modern. Fridge, nice bathroom, wifi, and balcony to the main street! We really lucked out with that one.

Lobby is nice, with a typical continental breakfast served in their dining hall. Had a good assortment of food to choose from.

Reception staff were SUPER friendly and a delight to interact with. Always helpful, always smiling and always cheerful. In fact, I realized three days later when I returned to Athens that I forgot my jacket inside our hotel room's closet. I called the hotel and Thano let me know that they found it and could mail it to me in Athens. My hero!

The hotel offers parking somewhere nearby for a reasonable rate (cant remember what it is), but we found on a nearby street. TIP - you can pretty much park anywhere you want in this city, so if you're up for the hunt, you can save yourself some euros. We left the car parked down the street for 3 days while visiting, and toured the city on foot.

Head down to Tsimakis street and Mitropoleos St for shopping, food, drinks and some of the best desserts you've ever had. Here you'll find great local shops, as well as all the big names: Zara, Louis Vuitton, etc...

TIP!!! Check out Ble bakery for the finest desserts and food.. I highly highly recommend their bougatsa - made with village style philo.. Photo attached. I've probaby eaten over 100 bougatsas in my lifetime, this one wins as the best by far.

Tourist attraction: White Tower is a great historic site to see, and you can view the entire city from the top. I think it was 7 euros to get in .

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing Egnatia St, so that you can have a balcony facing the city. Not sure if the ot...
