An imposing arch standing in the city centre of Thessaloniki - there are many more remains to be found around this area

“Roman building”
Reviewed December 2, 2012

The arch of Galerius is a Roman Building very nicely decorated with bas-reliefs. Passed by here the ancient Egnatia. Built by forth centuries AD.

“The Arch of Galerius”
Reviewed December 1, 2012

Beautiful Arch that is located not far away from the Rotonda. The Arch tells the story of Galerius and it is from the end of the 3rd century.

“Needs protection”
Reviewed November 29, 2012

The arch itself is an interesting ancient monument, although it was part of a larger construction that was destroyed through the centuries. It is from the times of emperor Galerius, and what remains is not that impressive as the arch of emperor Adrian in Athens. Unfortunately, the local authorities don't protect it enough. A larger area around the arch should be blocked in order to protect it from vandalism, and ideally, the few meters between the arch and the site of the ancient palace of Galerius should have been excavated and unified in order to form a continuous complex, but because the modern University is nearby, the local Council gives priority to the local coffee shops. Sad.

“needs preserving”
Reviewed November 13, 2012

this is a great meeting point in saloniki but needs protecting from the elements, it really stands out among all the new buildings, the square next to the arch is where all the students meet up for coffee
