The Byzantine museum in Thessaloniki is indisputably one of the best in Greece, due to to both its amazing architectuer and concept of museum space and its permanenent collection and temporary exhibitions. It is a must for any visitor to Thessaloniki!

This excellent building, designed by architect Crocos houses a great exhibition of byzantine and post-byzantine finds has been awarded with the the prize of the Best Museum 2005 by the Council of Europe. It is an ideal museum for individuals and groups to visit on a guided tour, spacious, well-organised, with interesting exhibits from the early Christian to the beginning of Ottoman period, taking care of visitors with special needs. Not to be missed is a visit to its beautiful cafe and restaurand "B", especially outside in the atrium, when the weather is nice. Recommended to any visitor of Thessaloniki.

This Museum is a must! If you know very little about the Byzantine period you will be enlightened, if you do know about it then you will find your knowledge much enhanced. If you can go to no other museum in Thessaloniki - visit the Byzantine Museum

this maybe the only museum we have visited in Greece, that does not show respect to the relevant period in the Greek history that it pretends to represent. it is far behind in claiming to represent the byzantine culture, and it could easily be included, as a corner in the archaeological museum in Thessaloniki, if at all, pity.
unless you do not have anything else to do, do not waste your time.

Of course, this is a must-see museum in Thessaloniki.
It contains many pieces, but the organization is weird.
The museum contains 10 rooms, which appears to follow some kind of chronology. But nothing is really put into a historical perspective. There is no logic in the presentation, and one is left with a "so-what" feeling.
I am not sure I remember many things after the visit.
It is a pity, because I am sure that many pieces have many things to say.
Entry is 4 euros, and you buy a combined ticket with the archeological museum.
