One of the biggest, prettiest, oldest churches in the city and beyond. The Church of Saint Demetrius is very valuable for the city, after the Saint Demetrios is the patron saint of the city. Huge history and its Role in `her. Here become the largest and most important religious and festive events during the year. Luxurious, completely destroyed several times in the past by fire and bombing but always love the city dweller they re-built it much better than before. Apart from churches are archeology and monument of the city, as the basement of the temple one can visit the catacombs maze where during the occupation of turks chriastias hiding to escape persecution and massacre, but also to organize underground hidden schools and learns Greek children letters. Finally the temple is the tomb of St. Demetrios and miraculously his grave smells aromatic.

A very beautiful church with beautiful architecture and the crypt downstairs has the place where St. Demetiros was imprisoned. The crypt also shows some remains of Roman baths.

If you have one day in the city, it is a monument you must not miss. Don't forget to go down to the crypt. It is not obvious from the entrance to the church.
